Web Writer – Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Do you have expertise in website design and strong project management experience? If so, consider joining our team of professionals with the Communications Services Branch.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
•    plan, develop, implement, coordinate and maintain ministry web properties
•    review and edit content prepared by program areas and external designers, writers, editors and translators
•    monitor websites for compliance, technical problems or issues and liaise with IT support staff to ensure their resolution
•    provide advice and guidance to ministry staff and conduct audits to ensure accuracy and currency of information
•    develop testing and measurement techniques to evaluate effectiveness of websites
Location: 99 Wellesley Street West, Toronto, Ontario

How do I qualify?

Technical Expertise:
You have:

  • solid knowledge and experience of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards and industry conventions and etiquette
  • knowledge of principles of website planning, site architecture, design and layout and search engine optimization
  • knowledge of current and emerging trends in website design and Internet technologies
  • knowledge of terminology and analysis of web metrics (website statistics), hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and general knowledge of Javascript
  • knowledge and experience with digital multimedia (audio and video), digital image production and editing (graphics and photographs)

Strategic Thinking and Analytical Skills:
You have:

  • strategic thinking and analytical skills to assess and review site/campaign effectiveness
  • analytical skills to identify gaps and areas for improvement and perform content audits
  • the proven ability to interpret communications standards, policies, procedures and regulatory/legislative requirements

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
You have:

  • oral communication and presentation skills to provide expert advice to clients, stakeholders and management on digital communications strategies and opportunities and liaise with Cabinet Office and government wide digital communications committees
  • strong written communication skills to write/edit online content, prepare information architecture, content structure and advertising proposals
  • customer service and interpersonal skills to promote digital content strategies and provide expertise and direction to the team

Planning and Organizational Skills:
You have:
•    planning and organizational skills to plan, prioritize and coordinate content for both public/internal website, web applications, social media site, campaigns and special projects for the Ministry

Computer Skills:
You have:
•    proficiency with various computer applications such as word processing, PDF authoring, digital media design, digital apps/tools, web analytics, social media applications, media editing software, audio recording/editing software, graphic layout and presentation tools, video editing software and web-based editing tools/software

Salary range: $1,190.58 – $1,406.47 per week
