SEO Specialist full-time

Do you have a passion for Search and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment? BuildDirect is expanding our marketing team and seeking a motivated SEO Specialist to join the Vancouver Headquarters team. As the SEO Specialist, you will be a key part of the demand generation team with responsibility for driving free traffic to our core website.

You are an innovative thinker with at least 1+ year SEO experience. You are always updated with the latest search engine updates and news. You have a passion for search and an ability to prioritize the tasks that make positive contribution to rankings and traffic. You will be working collaboratively with IT and outside consultants to proactively increase free traffic.

Keyword Research & Content:

  • Optimize pages based on keyword research and identify new keywords with high potential
  • Work with internal staff and external contractors to get optimized content
  • Expand content on BuildDirect "Learning Center" & other portals
  • Build out content to support key terms and rank for long-tail keywords

Link Building:

  • Develop high quality link strategies - work with internal staff and external contractors to attain relevant & high quality links
  • Actively and frequently propose new and improved link acquisition & outreach ideas
  • Monitor and improve link growth: enhance domain trust & authority

On-page SEO:

  • Collaborate with IT to find/resolve any potential search engine crawling/indexing issues for web pages
  • Suggest content topics, page title and other meta tags based on keyword research
  • Provide on-page SEO suggestions on content placement, site architecture, internal linking, URL rewrites & web design

Other initiatives:

  • Optimize blogs and other Wordpress assets
  • Monitor key metrics to look for opportunities and issues
  • Optimize other free traffic channels: Google Shopping, YouTube videos, etc
  • Staying up to date on the search marketing industry by researching/networking/reading blogs, forums and news sources

Expected Outcomes in First Year:

  • 50% increase in organic traffic & number of 'free sample' leads
  • Maintain sample contribution margin at or above target

Required Skills:

  • 1+ yr experience in SEO: on-page optimization, link building & content strategy
  • In-depth understanding of the search engine ranking process
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, PHP, CSS and web standards. ASP.NET knowledge is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills. Experienced using analytics to identify issues and seek out opportunities
  • Technically savvy - comfortable with SEO and design tools. Wordpress experience preferred.
  • Highly organized and able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks
  • Excellent communication skills, works well in a team environment
