Open Learning and Educational Support provides expertise and leadership to the University of Guelph community and our partners in the following: the scholarship and practice of teaching, technology-enhanced education, open learning and professional development. We provide support for teaching and learning that is evidence-based, responsive, developmental and based on best practices.
Reporting to the Director, the Senior Manager, Finance and Marketing will provide expertise in three key areas of business: financial management, marketing and administration. More specifically, the Senior Manager, Finance and Marketing will: develop budgets, financial forecasts and financial strategies that are reflective of the department’s financial structure and mandate; develop, recommend and implement strategic financial plans for collaborative business partnerships; draft formal agreements with internal and external organizations; review and approve all month-end financial reports; provide expertise in the administration of the department’s fully integrated financial management and registration system; provide leadership and functional guidance to a team of managers; create, plan, implement and measure comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations initiatives; establish and manage the department’s social media presence; research and analyze the competitive environment and trends in postsecondary education to inform marketing tactics; use a variety of analytic tools to measure the impact of marketing and promotional strategies; provide support and guidance in the development and implementation of marketing strategies for specific programs; provide leadership and guidance on human resource strategies including recruitment, hiring, orientation, goal setting, performance management, policies and procedures; provide expertise and leadership on internal and external committees as required; support the effective use of physical resources and allocation including space, furniture, tools and equipment and provide expertise to special projects as assigned.
Requirements of the position include: Master’s degree in a related field and several years of related experience, preferably in leadership roles in the area of financial management, strategic marketing and promotion, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional requirements include: demonstrated expertise with the following: working with a complex financial structure; creating and implementing marketing and promotional strategies that address multiple interests and stakeholders; making effective use of a variety of mediums including broadcast, print, digital and social media; human resources and operations management; meeting facilitation and presentations. Requirements also include: written and oral communication skills; contract and proposal writing skills; organizational, project management, time management, relationship building and interpersonal skills; conflict management and problem solving skills; computer, internet and related software skills., The incumbent must be motivated to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking entrepreneurial environment with the ability to work effectively under pressure during peak periods and in an environment where many things are happening at once, all requiring immediate attention.
