This role designs and develops advanced concepts and comprehensive product solutions that lead product collections  and that are in line with Arc’teryx design philosophies and customer needs, while mentoring others to build additional capability within the Arc’teryx team and bringing new collections and products to market.

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop quality strategies and processes that will ensure appropriate oversight, testing, product sampling, and documentation, is completed according to business calendars and provided to appropriate internal and external personnel
  • Create innovative performance or technology platforms that underpin product categories in Hardgoods
  • Drive the commercialization of innovative technologies including materials, pattern/part shaping and construction techniques for existing and/or future product categories in Hardgoods
  • Execute assigned collections and projects within seasonal time lines
  • Patiently and effectively mentor Designers and Developers by sharing skills, knowledge and experience to build additional capability within the organization and encourage advanced design development and problem solving
  • Create patterns, mock ups, and prototypes to explore, resolve, or prove new concepts or construction techniques in hardgoods
  • Provide detailed product initiations to Product Development, including spec drawings, pattern and fit direction, and fabric information
  • Collaborate with Technical Services to resolve fit style and construction issues and ensure a fully commercialised product Maintain up to date product illustrations throughout the development process
  • Coordinate with the Materials team to test new materials and ensure that necessary items are available for prototyping in hardgoods
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the materials and manufacturing techniques that Arc’teryx works with
  • Collaborate closely with other Designers to create and bring new and better toolbox solutions that benefit the brand (such as new technologies, construction techniques, features, etc.)
  • Present work at internal reviews and annual sales meetings
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, collaborate with Arc’teryx athletes and other industry representatives to help ensure Arc’teryx is  exceeding our customer's evolving needs
  • Assist with current product design changes where necessary in order to address in-line production issues
  • Collaborate with Product Line Manager and Design Manager on seasonal line plans and project resource planning
  • Assist Design Managers in developing a schedule for the flow of the line plan through all development stages, including charting line plan progress
  • Collaborate with the Colour team, providing recommendations and feedback

Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in industrial design, engineering or engineering technology

  • 5+ years hands-on experience designing relevant textile-based products for outdoor technical apparel and accessories

  • Significant experience creating tools and construction methods to assist in solving construction issues

  • Significant experience in mentoring others on the design process, patterning, sewing, garment construction with advanced technical and creative skills to pattern and prototype new products

  • Technically proficient with significant experience using Adobe Illustrator, Gerber, Lectra or equivalent pattern software

  • Excellent team player with the ability to take direction, work with minimal supervision and mentor and develop team members

  • Entrepreneurial and innovative

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Excellent planning, organizational, problem solving and decision making skills

  • Excellent English communication skills, verbal and written

  • Familiarity with the outdoor market that we make products for and extensive experience using these products in their intended  environment

  • Attendance at tradeshows and company events as required
