The Marketing & Content Specialist is primarily responsible for providing support for communications plans and implementation, which includes producing content for a number of communications channels to support our diverse portfolio of companies. This includes brand marketing, media relations, internal and external communications, web, print and social media.  This position is responsible for injecting the magic of storytelling into our brands and ensuring it resonates with our target audiences. Also, this position is responsible for staying on top of industry trends and research to ensure company competitiveness, and help with the ongoing marketing initiatives and campaigns.  The Marketing & Content Specialist works out of our corporate office in northern Toronto, Ontario, and reports to the Marketing Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Writing and content creation for key communications deliverables including presentations, newsletters, videos, brochures, letters, memos, bulletins, web content, scripts/speaking points, advertisements and reports as required
  • Demonstrate versatility in adaptation of writing skills for a variety of formats and objectives
  • Ensure a consistent, high standard of content and maximize its value across multiple communications and marketing channels, adhering to corporate brand standards and regulation requirements
  • Provide copyediting and proofreading for all written content; verify citations, and edit for correct style
  • Audit company social media channels and web content, as well as those of competitors, and research the pet food and other industries
  • Provide recommendations on how to improve our content and channels
  • Work with the Creative and the Web Development Teams to create and refresh web communications through social media and websites
  • Liaising with department heads to identify needs and scope out projects
  • Conduct social channel audits to map a brand’s global web presence and assess its effectiveness
  • Support marketing with research, analysis, and reporting in related areas, such as market research, target segmentation, and brands strategy

Key Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
  • Possess superior writing and grammatical skills, and communicate well verbally
  • Demonstrated experience in writing across all formats (e.g., website, SEO, SEM, online media, mobile, social, video, print, etc.)
  • Creative, versatile, and digitally proficient self-starter with excellent writing skills to develop engaging and effective content & communications
  • Knowledge of popular social media plugins, such as Facebook, Instagram & Twitter
  • Deep understanding of the digital environment and evolving tools and platforms used to improve online user experience
  • Basic knowledge of website design, search and social advertising, e-mail marketing, and e-commerce
  • Demonstrated experience in writing across all formats (e.g., website, online media, mobile, social, video, print, etc.).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with very short timeframes and under high pressure
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Ability to give and receive critique and respond with multiple solutions
  • Proactive attitude, demonstrated willingness to learn, and constant desire to improve
