Part-time - Marketing & Communications Support Officer

Located at the Frost Campus of Fleming College, the Office of Applied Research (OAR) oversees a variety of research activity, most notably the Centre for Alternative Wastewater Treatment (CAWT). The CAWT is a one of a kind research facility focussed on innovative water and wastewater treatment research. Fleming College is located in the beautiful Kawartha Lakes region. Just 130 kms (80 miles) northeast of Toronto, we deliver the hard-to-find combination of quality learning and quality of life in the communities we serve - Peterborough, Northumberland and Haliburton counties and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Description of position:
This role assists in the design, content and maintenance of the CAWT and Applied Research websites, and print-based marketing initiatives in support of the Applied Research strategies and goals using a variety of graphics software, design applications, techniques, and tools. The incumbent works with the College Marketing Department, other service areas and a number of client groups to:

-Translate vision and strategy into outstanding and compelling user interface design
-Gather, write, edit, post and manage content in print and web-based media
-Implement brand standards, templates and style sheets for the sites in accordance with College standards
-Troubleshoot, update and check links to other sites
-Work with the Marketing Department on various electronic and print-based marketing projects, including the OAR/CAWT websites, brochures, newsletters, magazines
-Act as Initial point of contact for OAR media enquiries
-Plan and coordinate events such as Industry Exchange Day
-Collect, compile and communicate metrics on research activities

Qualifications:
-Relevant combination of education and work experience in the marketing and/or communications field (3 year post-secondary diploma or degree preferred)
-Experience using new media technologies such as presentation graphics, web design/ publishing software, and/or graphic design applications
-Advanced knowledge of browser compatibilities and search engines
-Experience writing content for broad audiences from various sources and technical jargon
-Excellent writing and editing skills
-Strong conceptual thinker with ability to produce "out of the box" designs
-Understanding of web-site architecture and intuitive navigation schemes
-Understanding of the fundamentals of layout and design including colour theory, typography, composition, copy/design integration
-Understanding of security and data protection issues
-Self-motivated, able to follow direction and meet short deadlines
-Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills Excellent trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills
-Ability to work independently as well as interdependently as part of a team
