Starling Minds’ mission is to make affordable and effective mental health care accessible to everyone. We sell our Workplace Mental Health Platform to organizations as an on-demand, 100% digital Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) solution so that there are minimal barriers for employees to access evidence-based support.


Summary of Role


We’re looking for a creative and research-driven product design professional who is passionate about the intersection between mental health, innovation and technology. As a key member of our Product team, the Lead Product Designer will be responsible for designing the best possible user experiences for our consumer-facing digital mental health products.

Core Responsibilities


UX Architecture of Therapy Products

  • Own the overall UX architecture design of our therapy products

  • Work with Product Management, designers, SMEs, and other stakeholders to develop personas for our core therapy user type

  • Develop and maintain user journeys throughout the member experience

  • Work with designers and creative contributors to maintain UX consistency throughout our products

Strategic Product Ideation

  • Participate in strategic product ideation with cross functional teams, including Head of Product and CSO

  • Maintain a forward-thinking “sketchbook” of product and design ideas aligned with the strategic product roadmap

Feature Design and Prototyping

  • Work with product owners, designers, and engineers to design features in our therapy products.

Design System: Therapy

  • Build and maintain design systems to be used by all therapy design contributors

  • Work with Art Director to maintain a consistent creative direction in our content and media

  • Build and own the design-to-development pipeline for therapy products

Design Research and User Testing

  • Participate in product user testing planning, sessions, and analysis

Skills and Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in UX, digital design, or related field

  • 8+ years of UX and product design experience, with 4+ years in a senior role

  • Passion for your work and for our mission of providing accessible mental healthcare online

  • A portfolio that reflects your strengths in both UX and designing behaviour change products

  • UX expertise, specifically in the implementation of user testing and research throughout the design process

  • IxD expertise, with extensive experience in prototyping and interaction design

  • Fluent in translating stakeholder goals, user research, and complex user flows into simple, consistent UX

  • Master communication skills and the ability to deliver compelling design rationales in both client and internal contexts

  • Motivated by feedback and by the opportunity to improve in your role, in the work, and in how you work together as a team

Job Details

  • Reports to: VP Product

  • Full time permanent position, 40 hours per week

  • Location: Starling Minds’ head office is located in Vancouver, BC. All roles are currently working from home, however in post Covid-19, this role can work from home, work from our office, or do a mix of both.
