Craft & Vision is a photography education company. We specialize in creating exception digital products for amateur and advanced photographers. Since 2010, we have produced more than 50 digital products and have a passionate and creative customer base that has become accustomed to great content and compelling design.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Craft & Vision is seeking a freelance graphic layout designer to work remotely, but with an in-house attitude, three (3) days a week for six (6) months—and possibly longer.
The ideal candidate is more than just a button-pusher and can provide inspired collaboration in the creation of PDF eBooks for the photography industry. We’re looking for someone with a fetish for type, so if your pulse quickens around Swiss-style design and great photography, that would be OK with us. We’re an easy-going team looking for someone who gets things done on time, and can join us at HQ for a coffee once and awhile.
This role is ideally suited to a freelancer or sole proprietor who is a highly competent project team member and can receive direction well while at the same time feel confident chiming in with his/her own ideas.
The designer must be highly organized with an eye for detail and great communication skills over different mediums: email, phone, cloud-based collaboration and in-person.
The bossman is world and humanitarian photographer, best-selling author, and Editor-in-Chief David duChemin (aka Chief Executive Nomad); he makes the final decisions on content and creative. The Production Manager is Corwin Hiebert (aka The Chaos Killer) and is the primary point of contact for this position.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
This is a part-time contract for services work agreement that requires two (2) scheduled days and one (1) flex-day per week. Work is to be done during normal business hours.
The length of the contract is six (6) months, but this will be renewable if we all like each other; it starts March 11, 2013 and ends September 13, 2013.
The rate is $25 /hour for approximately 24 hours /week. Invoices will be paid by cheque within fifteen (15) days. Taxes, if applicable, are in addition.
In-person meetings / work sessions at the downtown Vancouver office—at minimum one (1) per month—will be required when requested. Meeting time is billable, but travel expenses are not.
All work created belongs exclusively to Pixelated Image Communications Inc. / Craft & Vision.
COMPETENCIES
Fluent English speaker: your writing should reflect this and not give us a nervous twitch
Advanced skills in the following applications: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
Experience in graphic layout and typography
EQUIPMENT & SOFTWARE
You are required to own your own computer: a Macintosh with the most recent OS
Latest software to be installed: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop (CS6), and Adobe Acrobat
EDUCATION
A diploma or degree in layout design is not likely to impress us. We’re more interested in what you can do than what your diploma says you can do.
