PROFILE

Are you the most organized person you know? We’re looking for a dynamo to lead our firm’s rankings and awards activities. You’ll be great in this role if you have a keen interest in marketing and business development, enjoy collaborating with other people and leading projects, and love doing research and finding new ways to slice and dice data. It will help if you are enthusiastic, optimistic and highly organized with an eye for detail.

In this role, you will interact regularly with many of the senior partners in the firm and you will work closely with senior leaders in the firm and colleagues in our BD & Marketing team. You will also be our day-to-day point person with external directories and rankings organizations (including Chambers and Lexpert). You will be responsible for day-to-day coordination and research related to the firm's Industry Recognition segment, particularly third-party rankings, awards and other accolades. There will be times when you will need help from your colleagues and times when you’ll jump in to help them with other tasks. We are looking for a great team member.

This is a busy role with deadlines throughout the year. We have a good system in place already, but there is plenty of scope to build on best practices, raise awareness within the firm, and become a true subject matter expert in this niche area of professional services marketing.

This position can be based in any of the following Gowling WLG offices: Toronto, Ottawa or Hamilton.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the firm’s tactical involvement in legal directories and other rankings or awards organizations, through structured submissions to these publishers which generally encompass firm and team information, client roster details, and nature of recent work.

  • Act as the firm’s primary day-to-day contact with external directories and rankings organizations to facilitate the firm’s participation and to maximize our rankings and awards. Foster relationships with editors, researchers and other key contacts at various legal publishers and communicate with them regularly on opportunities, processes and issues.

  • Develop and promote best practices and efficient processes for all submission and nomination channels (e.g., submission and nomination forms, client referee spreadsheet templates), and collaborate with the BD team in the execution of such activities. The goal is to identify strategic/priority rankings and awards submissions, and then ensure efficient preparation of quality submissions.

  • Collaborate with the firm’s leaders to identify award submissions of significance to the firm and our clients, help identify potential nominees, work with other members of the firm and clients to prepare award nomination submissions, and coordinate our participation in award events.

  • Analyze the firm’s annual rankings results and work with other members of the BD & Marketing team to promote our successes within the firm and externally.

  • Educate and train other firm members – individually and/or via group sessions – on directories and awards to help improve the firm’s results.

· Other Marketing & Business Development related projects and tasks as required and as the role evolves.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in a related field of study, including research, writing and/or marketing.

  • Marketing experience, preferably in a professional services environment. Experience as a researcher or writer with a legal directory would be advantageous.

  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.

  • Highly collaborative with an ability to guide, influence, and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the firm.

  • A demonstrated enthusiasm for research-based work.

  • Ability to show good judgment, tact, and flexibility under pressure in a busy work environment.

  • Well-developed writing and basic presentation skills coupled with a commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Bilingualism is an asset, but not required for the role.
