Summary of Position:

The Specialist, Digital Marketing, reporting to the National Director, Marketing and Business Development  is responsible for developing and executing a digital strategy for the Firm. Scope of the position will include management of the website (content management, analytics, SEO/SEM, best practices, etc). This is a full-time permanent position in Marketing and Business Development (MBD) Department at McMillan LLP based out of our Toronto office.To be successful, this position must assess the strategic digital needs of the firm, develop strategies to address those needs and oversee their implementation and quality control  according to industry best practices.This role will complement and complete the skill set of the current MarCom team whose primary responsibilities include internal communications, media relations and PR, creative, social media and CRM.

Responsibilities:

Website

    • Executes the strategy, content and design of the Firm’s English, French and Chinese websites, including the Careers microsite, or any other microsites that may be developed.
    • Liaises with internal clients to understand their needs and expectations. Works with vendors to ensure consistently high quality and stay informed of website best practices to serve external clients.
    • Maintains web content and brand standards as they relate to the website.
    • Vets website projects in accordance with Firm needs.
    • Implements website-related projects.
    • Writes and/or edits web content.
    • Ensures internal audience is aware of updates to the website and communicates the related benefits to the firm’s marketing and business development initiatives.
    • Regularly report to Management website and social media metrics along with other key performance indicators

Analytics

  • Working with a vendor, assesses and interpret Firm web analytics to determine content strategy and plan campaigns. Works with stakeholders (e.g. Management, National Organization Group coordinators) to determine KPIs and reviews this information with them on a quarterly basis. Measures efficacy of campaigns and content updates.  Stays informed of analytics best practices.

SEO/SEM

  • Works with a vendor and stakeholders to determines the Firm’s search engine optimization strategy. Continually works to improve the Firm’s search engine result page ranking, both paid and organic search. Uses SEO dashboard to derive ranking insights, which are presented to Management. Stays informed of SEO best practices and makes reasoned recommendations for continuous improvements.

Major annual/ongoing activities to include:

  • Website redevelopment
  • Website interaction improvements
  • CASL compliance
  • AODA compliance
  • Email marketing – design and develop email marketing campaigns including e-newsletters

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in website management, communications and one or more of the following areas: marketing, business development, project management, CRM stewardship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or general. Advanced degree would be considered an asset.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with superior analytical and technical skills.
  • Proficient in email marketing and using SharePoint and the Adobe Suite - Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • Hands-on programming experience with HTML, HTML 5, CSS,  JavaScript; XML and  AJAX, considered an asset
  • Prior experience working in a legal or other professional services firm; industry knowledge a must.
  • Demonstrated success thriving in a fast paced, high energy, team-based work environment.
  • Experienced in copywriting and web analytics
  • Exceptional organizational and supervisory skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Language skills an asset – specifically French and/or Mandarin
