Length:  Temporary Full-time (for approximately 6 months)

Description of Duties:
Assists supervisor to coordinate marketing and communications initiatives at the Waterloo Region Museum and Historic Sites (WRMHS); develops promotional material, outreach activities, events, displays, and presentations; and writes print and website material and uses social media to promote the WRMHS. May be required to adjust working hours, as needed, to work early mornings and evenings for presentations and special events; weekend work may be requested for same.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
• Knowledge of copy writing, online marketing, digital media, online advertising, current social media platforms, promotional concepts, e-mail marketing, public speaking, and graphic design principles, normally acquired through a 3-year university degree or college diploma in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field, plus 2 years of related experience.
Knowledge of Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act as it relates to communications, Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Canadian Press Standards.
• Demonstrated ability to write effectively in plain language and a range of voices and creative styles for varied audiences and delivery methods (e.g., print, web, video); concisely communicate potentially politically sensitive subject matter; and build and maintain customer relationships.
• Ability to leverage social media to drive performance, customer engagement, and audience development and enhance social networking.
• Analytical, research, and organizational skills to interpret, and apply relevant Regional and departmental policies, procedures, and standards; conduct basic research on customer experiences (e.g., customer surveys); respond appropriately to urgent issues; and work independently or as a member of a project team to complete projects and balance competing demands.
• Human relations and communications skills to promote the museum to a variety of audiences; respond to inquiries, requests, and complaints using tact and diplomacy; and participate as an effective team member.
• Computer skills using software such as MS Office, desktop publishing programs, and an information management system; using web-based technologies, including updating and maintaining the museum’s website and social media accounts.
• Ability to read, interpret and apply corporate, department and divisional policies and procedures; summarize, and explain media accounts, newsletters, journals, and reports; and understand and interpret social media and web-specific terminology.
• Ability to compose, edit, and proofread media releases, newspaper and magazine articles, letters, brochures,  procedures, newsletters, blogs, tweets, Facebook pages, website copy, and video scripts using creative, interpretive, and grammatically correct writing skills; and to develop and modify written communications according to audience.
• Ability to use web-based communication tools, with knowledge and understanding of best practices for web-based communications. Ability to respond to inquiries from stakeholders verbally and using social media forums.
• A valid “G” class driver’s license and satisfactory driving record are required to drive a Regional vehicle.
• Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization. Ability to present a positive, consistent image and identity of the division and Region.
