OPPORTUNITY

The Studio North is the in-house creative practice for EF Educational Tours Canada. Working in all mediums (print, interactive, video and mobile), the creative team is responsible for all creative and production for the marketing and sales efforts for all tour products within EF.  We are looking for a Creative Director with a background in writing who can oversee all aspects of the creative process.

DESCRIPTION

We have a unique opportunity for a creative role that is a combination of creative direction, writing and management.

We are seeking an insanely creative person to work closely with copywriters, designers, the marketing communications team, and various business stakeholders, as well as The Creative Group in our Boston office (TCG) to help continue to evolve the quality of writing and design within our creative practice. You'll also be a part of EF’s global creative community, including teams in Toronto, London, Zurich and Shanghai.

On the creative direction side of things you will provide the in-house and freelance team with clear creative on brand direction and supportive critique at all stages of a project. You will inspire innovative thinking and efficiency in the development of high-quality products that support business objectives. Ability to communicate and pitch clear ideas and creative concepts to senior leadership and other stakeholders is essential. You will also ensure that user insights, industry trends, brand guidelines and best practices are leveraged and infused in all creative components.

On the management end you will be overseeing a great team of copywriters (English and French), designers, and an integrated producer. You will keep the team on track, provide project management support and develop them creatively and professionally.

Your ability to dive into our product and mission quickly will be critical to your success. Previous creative direction and management is required.

The Creative Director will be a mentor, a teacher, and an idea person….a creative brain with a vision who can write. We want our Creative Director to be a hands-on part of the team. Tasked with crafting and owning the words and language we use as well as with directing the writers who execute, this person must feel comfortable working in all styles of writing as well as be able to integrate both strategic and a conceptual elements into their work…a pen who can help to bring “our voice” to the forefront.

The person we are looking for has been in the game for a little while- perhaps they’ve worked at an agency before? Regardless, this person is someone who will take great pleasure in making international and domestic travel irresistible. We do not merely want you to contribute to all the things we are already working on, we want you to pipe in and say, “Hey, I have some ideas.” Besides pitching your ideas as part of our team, you will be writing short-and long-form copy for video, interactive properties, catalogues, travel itineraries, letters, postcards, emails and the like for our tour-related products…a master of copy who can write headlines, scripts, body-copy and email subject lines.

EF is a large global company with a small company feel. We foster a highly collaborative working environment, which encourages ideas from every member of the team.

The role will have a duel report to the VP, Marketing and Education, as well as the EVP Managing Director of The Creative Group (TCG) in Boston.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • 3+ years as a creative leader / writer, preferably with in-agency experience.
  • Own the crafting, updating and evolution of all brand personas / voice.
  • Be a thought leader and provide creative oversight and consistency for all product voices / personas.
  • With marketing and design teams, lead concept development and brainstorming that support marketing objectives.
  • With designers, insure that strategic, conceptual ideas are translated into design rich and engaging user initiated experiences.
  • Internalize and evangelize EF’s Global copy / voice guidelines and sensibilities.
  • Attract and acquire creative staff capable of achieving the company’s new strategic design- excellence goal.
  • Provide creative mentorship/management to creative team.
