Web Developer, Front End Full-Time

The Front End Web Developer will be responsible for developing/maintaining the overall design and architecture of the web platform solutions being used today by Holt Renfrew. This developer role will be fundamental in developing cross platform functionality for web applications.  Daily updates for all company websites where required, improving company website search engine standings, helping to build out mobile versions of our sites, and generally ensuring all  websites are getting better each and every day in all aspects.  The ideal candidate will have relevant experience, an applicable educational background, and career path goals in the web space. Candidate must have working knowledge of website best practices and trends.

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Use object-oriented design patterns for separation of concerns, code reusability, security and performance
  • Translate agile software development stories into reusable, composable units of functionality
  • Responsible for hand-coding of both CSS and semantic, efficient, standards-compliant HTML5
  • Design and implement robust client-side solutions with AJAX and JSON
  • Convert UX requirements into high quality HTML/JS/CSS
  • Establish and implement best practices and standards for all web presentation layer development
  • Work closely with back-end developers to ensure the integrity of the UI throughout the development life cycle
  • Discuss technical solutions with partners and provide innovative new ideas to solutions
  • Understand and implement web standards and SEO practices for managing site content
  • Collaborate with agile technical teams on functional projects
  • Ability to use and integrate with APIs on any platform where documentation is provided

The ideal candidate:

  • BA/BS or equivalent combination of work experience and education
  • 5+ years of experience encompassing all aspects of dynamic front end web development
  • Experience with JavaScript libraries/frameworks beyond just jQuery (e.g., Knockout, Ember, AngularJS, Underscore, Backbone, etc.)
  • Expertise in developing single page applications using techniques including front-end routing, client-side templating, consuming JSON-based RESTful APIs
  • Strong competency in responsive, mobile-first layouts leveraging CSS and media queries
  • Practical knowledge of web page optimization techniques and guidelines for fast page load times
  • Experience with code analysis tools (e.g., JSLint, JSPerf, etc.)
  • Knowledge of backend frameworks (MVC-based systems)
  • An understanding of accessibility guidelines
  • Excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, a self-starter
  • Ability to hand-code pages using W3C standards-compliant
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical individuals
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Ability to complete projects quickly and effectively while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS3, Javascript and jQuery
  • Experience with debugging cross-browser / platform rendering issues
  • Experience with Photoshop and Wordpress
  • Familiar with XML, UTF-8, logs, FTP, RSS, ETL, backups, web services
  • Familiar with eCommerce platforms
  • Experience working with mobile applications or websites
  • Information Architecture, wireframing, site mapping, etc.
