SUMMARY
The Web Communications Officer will work with the Director, Communications and Marketing to implement effective content marketing, online communications, fundraising and recruitment strategies for Cuso International. He/She will help develop, maintain and administer the Cuso International website and work to promote the organization, recruit volunteers and develop relationships through various online platforms. He/She will work collaboratively with members of the Communications team and other departments to manage web products, multimedia communications, online fundraising and social marketing on behalf of the organization. He/She will offer strategic and technical advice to Cuso International in-country projects on social media and ecommunications to help meet objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Website
- Acts as the organizational website administrator and primary technical web resource
- Develops and leads the implementation of a content marketing strategy
- As the online content lead, proactively develops, manages and uploads copy, graphics, photos and video to websites, blogs and social media in keeping with the content marketing strategy
- As required, makes changes to the graphic identity and layout of websites
- Coordinates with Cuso International’s web support provider
- Ensures online brand consistency (visual and written)
- Interprets web analytics to improve impact and ensure audience reach
- Undertakes semi-annual web audits to ensure relevant content and working links
Social Media
- Manages and moderates Cuso International’s social media platforms
- Leads on the development and implementation of Cuso International’s social media strategy, including properties, advertising and best practices
- Proactively develops new content and acquires third-party content for social media use, and ensures engaging and relevant posting, balancing the multiple needs of the organization
- Works with staff across the organization to provide engaging and relevant content for social media networks
- Develops relationships with stakeholders and key audiences, including corporate, institutional and diaspora partners, through social media platforms
- Ensures social media platforms are appropriately branded and updated
- Monitors social media analytics and provides results-based reporting as required
- Advises Cuso International country projects on strategic use of social media to meet project objectives
E-Communications
- Participates in the strategy and develops and deploys Cuso International’s e-communications, including enewsletters, e-appeals and email campaigns
- Develops and updates email templates for newsletter and email marketing purposes and for partnership development and support
- Monitors and reports email marketing performance
- Manages and updates e-subscriber lists
- Advises Cuso International country projects on maximizing use of e-communications
Search Marketing
- Conducts search engine optimization, search engine marketing and targeted keyword campaigns as needed (organic and paid)
- Monitors Cuso International’s search position and implements strategies and tactics to improve rankings
Multimedia
- Participates in the development of video, graphics and photos to meet web communications objectives
- Manages platforms to disseminate multimedia content, including YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr and others
Strategy
- Develops an annual work plan for the web communications portfolio
- Makes recommendations for annual budgets and expenditures in support of the web communications portfolio
- Guides Cuso International staff and volunteers on meaningful social media engagement to support organizational objectives
General
* The Web Communications Officer is expected to work effectively as part of a staff team and in particular to:
o Undertake specific additional responsibilities from time-to-time, as may be agreed upon with the
Director, Communications and Marketing
o Contribute to the general discussion of issues relating to Cuso International’s communications and
program
o Participate in cross-team projects, in support of organizational objectives
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Official bilingualism (French & English)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working in web communications or online marketing
- Experience &/or strong understanding of fundraising principles & objectives
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field
- Experience in planning and delivering organizational web communications programs
- Experience in developing effective and compelling content (written, photo and video)
- Experience working with CMS (Content Management Systems) on a daily basis
- Intermediate understanding of HTML and CSS
- Demonstrated ability to follow design guidelines and standards
- Experience in email marketing and using mass email software
- Experience in successfully implementing and monitoring web strategy
- Web user behaviour monitoring and evaluating skills
- Attention to detail, including ability to proof-read and edit
- Demonstrated understanding of internet search engine optimization and search marketing
- Effective inter-personal skills and ability to exercise tact and discretion
- Attitudes and behaviours that show respect for diversity
- Ability to work independently within larger team
Desirable
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
- Advanced understanding of web programming languages such as HTML5, JavaScript
- Knowledge of international development, volunteering and/or non-profit sector
