OPPORTUNITY: The Ottawa Sport & Social Club (OSSC) has a rewarding and challenging position open for a talented and motivated individual who will play a key role in the growth of our National SSC’s online presence and enhancement of the SSC brand. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director to develop innovative media (graphics and video) that drive awareness, consideration, and engagement. This position will require a conceptual thinker, articulate visualizer, and detail-oriented individual with proven experience to develop contemporary physical and digital marketing campaigns across all media platforms with a focus on social media.

ABOUT THE OTTAWA SPORT & SOCIAL CLUB: The Ottawa Sport & Social Club was developed from our desire to be the largest multi-sport provider in the city.  Since 2003, the Sport & Social Club organization has operated in 7 cities managing over 21,000 current weekly players.  All seven organizations create, organize and manage sports leagues, tournaments and special events for adults in their respective cities.  In short, we are “Recess for Adults”.

WORKING HOURS: This is a permanent position working a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9:30am-5:30pm, with evening and weekend work required (shifted working hours into the evening).  Flexibility in working hours will be required to meet the needs of the business and fulfill job requirements.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The successful candidate will be responsible for executing the tasks below for all National SSC clubs under our corporate umbrella, with the ultimate goal of turning fans into customers and developing brand loyalty.

Social Media (~80%)

  • Develop and execute the social media strategy on platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn
  • Proactively manage social media engagement including conversations, feedback and questions and identify any that require attention
  • Create and curate engaging stories for a blog that will attract and entertain teams and enhance the SSC community
  • Use all the tools necessary to maintain a relevant presence on social media: text, pictures, videos
  • Work with Sport Managers and the Customer Service team to stay informed of all sports offerings to ensure a cohesive approach and are consistent in style, quality and voice
  • Create strategic and innovative ways to grow social media presence with the end goal of developing brand loyalty
  • Provide regular updates to the team on social media performance (analytics) and make recommendations for new campaigns/approaches
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and innovations in Social Media that contribute to business objectives

Content Creation and Design (~20%)

  • Create high quality graphic design visuals for print marketing campaigns, social media, email, website and promotional documents
  • Conceptualize and create compelling graphic design elements that reflect the passion of sport and SSC teams
  • Ensure consistency of branding across all designs and platforms
  • Responsible for taking photos including editing using Photoshop
  • Develop, execute and distribute a variety of promotional and instructional videos for social media and website
  • On-site filming and photography of live game action, including interviews with players and teams
  • Editing and post-producing video and audio elements into production
  • Overseeing all aspects of the physical maintenance, archiving and management of content-related assets

Other (As required)

  • Assisting with the execution of the marketing plan, purchases, research and new creative ideas
  • Participating in tradeshows, tournaments or events and acting as Ambassador at these events
  • Assist with sport operation tasks during season launch

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor Degree or diploma preferably in Digital Marketing, Journalism or Marketing / Communications
  • Minimum 3+ years experience with content development and social media marketing

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The ideal candidate is a writer, a sports lover with an affinity for and deep understanding of Social Media
  • Demonstrable knowledge of social media communications and emerging trends
  • An understanding of how social media and interactive communication platforms fit into the marketing plan and can drive awareness
  • Solid understanding of analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics, Facebook Insights, Google Analytics
  • Experience with photography, audio/video filming and editing
  • Creative, independent, can think “outside the box” to create compelling content or promotions
  • Analytical, demonstrating an ability to collect data, analyze trends, draw conclusions and make recommendations
  • Willingness and proven ability to work independently, under tight deadlines
  • Capacity to manage multiple simultaneous priorities and work at fast pace keeping a high attention to detail
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to spot original branding opportunities
  • Ability to travel with a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends (during league hours)
  • Knowledge and interest in sports is considered a must
  • Positive attitude and a natural team player

COMPENSATION: OSSC offers a salaried position, excellent benefits package, incentive program based on the club’s growth and personal performance, and the professional advantages of a positive work environment that supports your development and recognizes your achievements. A training budget is included and it is expected the selected candidate will stay current on industry trends through outside training opportunities.  The position starts with 3 weeks of paid vacation leave per year. Salary is commensurate on experience of candidate.
