Primary Focus

The mandate of the Community Relations function is to support Enbridge's business objectives by: maintaining the company’s social license to operate; increasing the freedom of operation among the communities in which it works; and; maximizing the value of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives by ensuring they are well promoted at the community level.

The position provides strategic and regional community relations support to Public Affairs and LP operational leadership and is accountable for relationship management via development and execution of local community engagement plans that meet the needs of local stakeholders. The Senior Advisor, Community relations assists in resolving issues with landowners, communities and stakeholder organizations, ensuring ongoing trust and positive reputation with stakeholders in proximity to Enbridge Operations.

Responsibilities

Develops, maintains and helps manage relationships with key regional stakeholders and communities (including First Nations communities in proximity to operations) on behalf of operations. Assists in development and execution of annual community relations plans and communications that meet the needs of local stakeholders.

Proactively identifies and manages emerging issues in operational communities that may impact Enbridge brand,reputation, operations or projects. Work with National Manager to monitor, assess and develop strategies to support response to regional community issues to ensure community support for ongoing and new business interests and to help mitigate community resistance.

Assists in the development of and executes a community relationship strategy that achieves brand, reputation, relationship and/or business development goals and focuses on long term relationship and trust with communities. Consults with and advises on integrated CR strategies where more than one Enbridge business unit is present. (e.g. Green Energy, EGD, Gas Storage, LP operations, etc).

Implements measurement strategies and programs to assess community engagement effectiveness corporately and locally.

Assists in planning and transition of project handover from Major Projects to Operations.

Working with other Public Affairs functions (including Aboriginal Affairs; Community Partnerships and Investment Government Relations and Communications, helps coordinate and leverage services and program delivery to operations and projects.

Assists Land and Right of Way personnel with planning and carrying out of Public Awareness Program, and in resolving issues with landowners and associations.

Builds and manages relationships with local / municipal governments in support of operations and/or projects.

Collects, requests and provides funding recommendations for community events that will result in enhanced reputation.

Researches communities in proximity to developing projects. Provides timely briefing materials relevant to and in support of future engagement and consultation

Represents Enbridge at local community events such as career fairs, project open houses, and celebrations. Ensures corporate brand is well-represented and promoted within Enbridge brand standards via various communications methods (e.g. pop-up banners, logo use in third-party material, signage at events etc.)

Coordinates department and senior management attendance, table purchases, invitations, RSVP management, registration etc. at community events and meetings.

Prepares and updates community presentation materials

Prepares materials for CSR reporting

Assists with leveraging opportunities via various marketing and communications vehicles (eLink, e-Bridge website etc.).

Prepares outgoing correspondence in a timely manner.

Maintains proper filing of electronic and paper files

Assists with development of department budget and other Administrative support regarding budget/audit reporting requirements.

Keeps up on personal and professional development

Keeps up on administrative tasks such as time and expense reporting

Directs information requests to appropriate resources.

Qualifications

Certificate in Public Relations, Communications or Land Agent combined with 2-5 years related community relations experience.

Demonstrated interest in corporate social responsibility principles: customer focused approach with both external stakeholders and corporate management.

10+ years related pipeline or oil and gas industry experience is considered an asset.

Demonstrated ability to manage issues and work with other disciplines.

Proficiency with MS Office suite (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and Visio). Well developed internet navigation, Lotus Notes (or equivalent tool) and general computer usage skills.

Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.

Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work to meet the challenges of providing support to multiple employees in a fast paced environment.

Ability to demonstrate initiative and make suggestions to streamline processes. Highly disciplined with regard to handling confidential information and working with minimal direct supervision.

Completion of Aboriginal Studies from a recognized institution or several years of experience in a related field is considered an asset for the position.

English and French fluency required.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
