DESCRIPTION

Connected Lab is a rapidly growing Toronto-based product innovation and development company focused on delivering software solutions for new hardware and connected devices. We’re helping major brands (Facebook, Harmon/Kardon) and VC-backed startups (Snypr, Tecniq) launch new products using our Connected Method, a combination of Design Thinking (what to build) and Extreme Programming (how to build it).

We’re seeking extremely bright ᒡ◯ᵔ◯ᒢ, reliable (ಠ_ಠ), kind ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ designers who are eager to create products for the emerging ☁ internet of things ☁. At Connected Lab we are defining how people should interact with connected devices and how these experiences can bring value and ♡ d-light ♡ into their lives. Designers working on our team will have the opportunity to set the bar for world class product design in our connected world. If you are craving an opportunity to design our collective ----► future ----► while working with an incredibly dynamic and talented team, read on and apply below.

REQUIREMENTS

All designers at Connected Lab are Product Designers. When looking for new designers we do not distinguish between Interface, Experience, Interaction, Industrial, Visual, Service or Research roles because all are essential (in varying proportions) to delivering exceptional products. Because we focus on software for new hardware, new devices often have novel computation contexts that require our designers to discover and set best practices rather than rely on them. Each designer at Connected Lab brings at least one core area of expertise which they supplement through a collaborative spirit and an appetite for continuous learning and experimentation.

The ideal candidate is passionate about exploring the intersection of design and technology, embraces ambiguity, believes in the importance of carefully and empathetically framing the problem, explores multiple solutions, excels at visually communicating design concepts, can eloquently express the rationale behind their work, and thrives in cross-disciplinary teams. They should also have a playful attitude towards design and be a fundamentally curious person.

In addition to these qualities, we want people who are excited about contributing to the processes and culture of our growing company. Joining our team means having the opportunity to help build something great.

Some of the activities that fill our days:

  • exploring creative applications for emerging technologies
  • iterative prototyping and artifact creation
  • cross-disciplinary pairing
  • exploratory research into problem and opportunity definition
  • idea generation and concept validation
  • shaping elegant user experiences
  • crafting intuitive interactions
  • executing sophisticated visual interface designs
  • evaluating work through direct user testing
  • ensuring products meet both user and client needs

Some of our favourite design and prototyping tools include, but are not limited to:

  • Sketch
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • InVision
  • Keynote
  • Pixate
  • Omnigraffle
  • Arduino/Particle
  • Processing
  • HTML/CSS/LESS/SASS
  • Javascript
  • Framer.js

If you are interested in working with us please apply with your resume/CV and a link to a portfolio describing the products and/or services you’ve worked on. If it looks like you could be a good fit with our team then we will get back to you as soon as we can with some next steps.
