The Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition (VACC) is growing quickly and we are looking to add a Marketing & Membership Coordinator. This is a great opportunity for a person with a creative mind-set, and the chance to play an important role in a growing organization. The organization has seen its membership almost double in one year, and is the largest cycling organization in Metro Vancouver. With the increased interest and participation in cycling, the VACC is poised to reach further into the mainstream community with our education and encouragement programs. In 2010 and 2011 the VACC will have launched at least three new programs. These developments have created the opportunity to bring aboard an outstanding marketing person to help achieve our goals.


  • Assist in VACC branding, key messaging, image, website
  • Channel social presence makeover
  • Promote VACC through various modes including traditional and social media
  • Establish the VACC in LinkedIn, Foursquare, and other social media platforms
  • Draft, review and post website updates
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of press releases and promotional pieces, and engage in press relations
  • Assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of events
  • Liaise with the VACC Marketing and Communications Committee
  • Execute on the VACC’s 2011 Membership Campaign
  • Lead the efforts to meet and exceed our 2011 membership targets
  • Work with the team to continuously improve member satisfaction and retention
  • Assist in the development of the corporate membership program
  • Secure new member benefits

Skills and Experience:

  • A passion for people powered transportation including cycling
  • A highly organized self-starter
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in social media platforms and marketing
  • Experience with social media marketing and/or marketing communications an asset
  • A minimum of 2 years business experience with a successful track record in marketing and/or member development.
  • Flexibility, interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills and collaborative team player. Able to establish and maintain positive working relationships, both internally and externally
  • People management and leadership acumen
  • Self-starter, able to take initiative and deliver on time
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills, with ability to write clearly and persuasively
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Experience with websites would be an asset
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations/board of directors preferred
  • Familiarity with VACC and its programs preferred

Hours will vary according to program needs, up to 35 hours a week. The hourly rate will be commensurate with skills and experience. Start date by April 30, 2011. Length of contract: one year, with the possibility of contract extension(s) for qualified candidates and as VACC needs develop. VACC will provide a work mail/email address, and access to shared office space. Contractor must have access to their own computer and cell phone for work purposes.
