Manager, Search Marketing Full-Time

Reporting to the Director, Digital Marketing, the Manager, Search Marketing is responsible for SEM marketing across all products utilizing various strategies to optimize media spend and deliver profitable ROI, competitive CPA’s and branded content across all products. The Manager, Search Marketing will assist the Director in defining the SEM strategy, delivering and optimization of all major SEM activities and the “always on” strategies supporting the Enterprise growth objectives. In addition the Manager, Search Marketing will be responsible for SEO maintenance across all Mackenzie Investments properties ensuring that industry best practices and strategies are being implemented.

The Manager, Search Marketing will lead the strategic development of all SEM/SEO initiatives to support growth objectives as well as branded presence within customer journey. Given the rapid pace of change in the digital and market ecosystem, this individual will be responsible for keeping a close pulse of new market innovations, search ranking algorithms and building ongoing specific perspective on how best to leverage these innovations and opportunities to Mackenzie Investment’s advantage. Leveraging this knowledge and market perspective, this individual will be responsible for establishing and managing the strategic plan for digital growth platforms and then leading the cross-functional, cross-business unit implementation of identified strategies.

Specific responsibilities include:

Search Strategy and Campaign Management (60%)

  • Strategic expert on delivering  Search innovations and programs across the enterprise
  • Subject matter expert for Search (SEM/SEO) and strategic focal point for the team, assisting team  members with Search related direction and standards
  • Develop and execute a complete end to end SEM customer journey to support the sales funnels and develop and implement retargeting strategies
  • Actively contribute to discussions and brainstorming sessions
  • Work with the analytics team to improve, user tracking and search optimization
  • Ensure synergies and that both SEO and SEM strategies compliment and build off each of the efforts as well as other marketing initiatives
  • Ensure there is a cohesive customer journey to capitalize on the customer funnel
  • Prioritize and manage workload effectively
  • Ensure projects are delivered on-time and to the highest possible standard
  • Occasionally work outside normal office hours to implement code to production environment

Relationship Management (20%)

  • Collaborate with Online Planning Managers or internal project teams to understand business and user requirements with regards to front-end development deliverables and timelines
  • Work in partnership with creative and technical teams to determine enterprise solutions within the existing online infrastructure
  • Work with IS team to ensure server side work is completed in tandem with Marketing deliverables
  • Work with outside vendors on existing / new technology platforms (implementation and maintenance)

Risk Management and Control (10%)

  • Develop, implement and maintain methodologies to evaluate effectives of digital programs
  • Recognize new standards and partner with online and enterprise teams to update as required
  • Understand requirements and monitor overall compliance to all online policies, procedures and brand guidelines for all Mackenzie Investments digital properties

Change and Innovation (10%)

  • Identify opportunities and provide recommendations to the Director to improve online customer experience and increase the effectiveness of the channel


  • 6-8 year’s experience in SEO/SEM strategy implementation, consulting and planning
  • Excellent understanding of digital space, sales funnels and optimization for acquisition (sales and/or lead generation)
  • Strong knowledge of RTB and retargeting strategies, digital marketing communications development and implementation, including advertising, social and mobile
  • Strong knowledge of tracking and measurement
  • In-depth knowledge of online user experience, ecommerce
  • Budget management
  • Superior influencing skills and understanding of how to navigate a matrix organization
    • Ability to actively engage others to achieve positive business outcomes
    • Active influencer of future innovations and ability to make things happen through positive influence
    • Proven experience driving leads, sales and use of metrics to achieve the strategies
