The Liquor Distribution Branch is one of Canada’s largest distributors and retailers of beverage alcohol. At the Liquor Distribution Branch we are driven by innovation and have a passion for the future and are looking for a dynamic professional to join our team.

The Manager of Communications reports to the Director of Corporate Policy and Communications and is responsible for the development and implementation of internal and external communications, public and media relations. The department develops a variety of corporate publications, including public information materials and the LDB’s Annual Report and Service Plan. The Communications Manager functions at a senior level and provides management expertise, advice and direction to senior executives, and ensures the consistent and effective implementation of communications plans, policies, procedures and standards throughout the LDB. The position also functions as public and media spokesperson where appropriate.

This position functions in an empowered, dynamic and issues-focused environment where priorities are continuously changing, requiring the incumbent to excel under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Extensive related experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field and  post-secondary education degree, diploma or formal course work OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Extensive experience identifying media and public issues and preparing appropriate responses for spokespeople and/or for use by the media.

Experience providing advice, direction and coordination to Executives and project teams dealing with specific initiatives or communication projects.

Experience providing leadership, supervision, motivation, and constructive feedback to staff.

Knowledge:

Expert knowledge of the principles and practice of effective communications, media/public relations and marketing communications, including communications planning steps and processes.

Knowledge of publication production (from design to distribution), that includes the ability to prepare cost estimates, negotiate and manage contracts with firms to design and print/produce electronic/presentation materials and/or other print materials.

Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to work to tight deadlines, and with a high degree of confidentiality.

Demonstrated superior writing and editing skills, including logic, Canadian Press (CP) style, tone, grammar, spelling, and proofreading.

Strong inter-personal and communication skills, demonstrated good judgment, diplomacy and discretion.

Strong leadership skills and change management abilities.
