PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Director of Marketing will establish and implement strategic and tactical marketing plans to capitalize on market opportunities, generate demand and increase revenue.  You will build your own team from scratch to create strong brand and product awareness and a steady flow of sales leads. This role has a direct impact on the success of the company and holds ultimate responsibility for the ROI of the marketing department.

KEY STAKEHOLDERS:

  • Business Development -Develop and provide sales-enablement materials, both print and electronic.
  • Co-founders -Provide regular updates on outcomes of marketing initiatives, with focus on key business metrics, including ROI.
  • Customer Success - Develop various post sales marketing communication strategies (social media, storytelling, customer training etc.) to drive customer engagement
  • Product Management - Obtain and share market-driven data, insights and feedback on products and services to influence product direction
  • Sales - Generate demand for products and services, with a strong focus on product value proposition, positioning, awareness and messaging

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND SUPPORTING TASKS:

Demand Generation

  • Collaborate with Product Management counterparts to develop expert understanding of the functions, values and competitive differentiation of SSM’s products and services
  • Develop product messaging, core positioning and value proposition that differentiate SSM’s products in the market
  • Ensure value proposition is communicated and understood consistently in and out of the company
  • Create product demand through various inbound marketing activities

Market Research and Analysis

  • Research industry trends and gather customer opinions to identify customer-perceived value and enhancements to current features and functionalities
  • Provide focused, market-driven feedback to the Product Management team on product and solution directions
  • Enable a market-driven approach to product management and development

Content Marketing

  • Co-develop relevant and valuable content (whitepapers, newsletters, brochures, manuals, blog posts, social media posts etc.) with Business Development, Sales and Customer Success to attract and retain “ideal” customers
  • Plan, develop and distribute marketing promotional materials, with a focus on broader aspects such as product image and industry profile, rather than technical product specifics

Marketing Communications

  • Collaborate with Sales, Business Development and Customer Success to develop marketing communications strategies and establish an operational plan and associated implementation budget
  • Develop and writes print publications (newsletters, brochures, manuals etc.) and assist in website development and maintenance

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

You will have the opportunity to build the Marketing department from scratch. You will co-develop metrics to measure the impact of your work as it relates to your main accountabilities described above.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Must-haves:

  • At least 5 years of professional Marketing experience in the online advertising and/or digital media space
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline
  • Experience researching and developing pre and post sales client facing content

Nice-to-have:

  • Master’s degree in Marketing, Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline
  • Experience engaging Agencies or digital publishers from a sales & marketing standpoint
  • Experience working in a B2B marketing space
  • Experience working in the automotive industry

  • Ability to grasp and translate technical concepts into clear market 
propositions for materials
  • Excellent track record in developing effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrated competence driving continuous improvement and operating with flexibility
  • High level of resourcefulness, with a positive can-do attitude and demonstrated success working independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks under pressure in a constantly changing environment
