Job Description

Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Communications, RMI, the Director of Communications will be responsible for the following day-to-day activities:

  • Work closely with the Rogers Publishing President and senior leadership team to support corporate and brand objectives and initiatives
  • Execute the Pride in Publishing strategic internal communications campaign to inform and engage employees; generate culture that brings enthusiasm and instills pride
  • Integrate internal and external communications activities across key internal divisions and functional teams within Rogers Media and Rogers Communications
  • Identify opportunities to increase profile, build brand reputation, and influence external perceptions
  • Liaise with stakeholders - including business partners, magazine industry, government, public - to drive alignment to Publishing business strategy
  • Develop and lead all communications activities - including traditional and social media - across robust portfolio of Publishing brands; oversee all media materials and tools, including Town Halls, forums, and executive appearances and speaking engagements
  • Oversee all media relations, and act as company spokesperson as necessary
  • Develop key messaging and manage crisis communications
  • Foster relationships with key media to support communications campaigns and maximize media coverage
  • Manage the department's budget
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in journalism and/or public relations/communications
  • Strong knowledge of and passion for the publishing, journalism and media industries
  • Stellar judgment and understanding of Publishing's unique audiences
  • Proven experience leading a Communications team, with the ability to work independently and as part of a large team
  • Impeccable communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong and proven experience fostering relationships with employees, executives, media, executives, partners, stakeholders, and cross-functional staff teams
  • An existing network of publishing and media contacts
  • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Possess excellent time-management skills
  • Accessible after hours and on weekends
  • Journalism degree or background an asset
  • Bilingualism an asset
