Position Summary:

The primary function of the Community Engagement Coordinator is to support marketing, communications and community engagement initiatives in the WorkBC Employment Services Centre (ESC). Reporting to the ESC Manager, the Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to raise awareness of the WorkBC program in the community and to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with service and partner organizations, local employers, government agencies and other stakeholders through integrated marketing and promotional campaigns.

Primary Duties:

  • Engages in outreach, delivers presentations to inform stakeholders of services and resources available
  • Creates, Distributes promotional materials; brochures, flyers, website and newsletters
  • Creates and executes plans for promotional events taking place at the ESC and satellite office
  • Researches, explores and implements relevant digital communications strategies such as the use of social media tools to raise awareness of employment services
  • Creates a comprehensive yearly community engagement plan.
  • Drafts press releases and other materials to get exposure of the ESC through various media channels
  • Liaises with local organizations and strengthens linkages with not-for-profit agencies, government departments and the private sector towards ESC and satellite office marketing and partnership goals
  • Markets to employers in the local community

Dimensions of Work

  • Participates in staff meetings and provides updates related to marketing and communications
  • Works on relevant committees and working groups to enhance community connectedness of the ESC and satellite office
  • Ability to work flexible hours if required; may include occasional evenings and weekends

Academic and Job Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline with training/coursework in communications, public relations or marketing plus 1-2 years of related professional experience.

Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal Records Check including the vulnerable sector
  • Strong technology skills with knowledge of graphic design software, website content management systems and social media platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of professionalism
  • Use of Own Vehicle with Business Insurance, mileage will be reimbursed
  • Drivers Abstract must be submitted

Desired Requirements:

  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Sound understanding of the WorkBC program/contract as well as PCRS programs and services
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in public relations & marketing, government, community social services and the not-for-profit sector
