Communications:  Technical Writer and Website Specialist

An opportunity for a dedicated Team Player to join a dynamic team

The British Columbia School Trustees Association (BCSTA) serves and supports our members, BC’s Boards of Education, in their key work of improving student achievement. At the local level, BCSTA provides professional development, legal counsel and communications. Provincially, our non-profit Association acts as Boards’ strong, unified voice in advocating to government, other education partners, and the public on matters effecting public education.

Our business office is located centrally in the city of Vancouver but supports all of the school districts throughout BC.  Most of the work related to this position happens within the offices of the BCSTA and only occasionally would there be visits to other communities and school districts

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will provide a broad range of Communications services to BCSTA and the member school districts.  You have the experience of providing services to support a high performance service related culture.  You will be responsible for a major part of the work of the organizations Communications Department and supporting all aspects of creating and delivering the message of the organization including writing, both correspondence and speeches, planning and oversight of the organization’s publications.

You have the courage, ability and skills that provides advice to the leaders across the organization.  You have excellent writing and editing skills to support the communications needs of the organization.  Your knowledge and application of social media for the organization is well developed.  You are well versed and skilled in meeting the deadlines that are associated with publication and media productions.  You have skill in the development of a web-site to support the vision and direction of the organization.  You are a team player.

With strong positive interpersonal skills, you have the ability to influence, innovate, build and maintain strong relationships with multiple stakeholders and employ the Communication’s industry best practices in helping to create organizations that positively move forward.

Using your innate ability to see the big picture while understanding the details, you will be able to successfully link our educational aspirations with our corporate necessities. This talent will also be behind your ability to identify areas of improvement and bring forward innovative new ideas and approaches the communication needs of the organization.

With a reputation for honest, direct and proactive communication, you will be an excellent representative of the BCSTA, building strong, respectful alliances with our partners and stakeholders.

You have a university degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related discipline with 5+ years in communications with and ideally increasing responsibility.
