The Catholic Children's Aid Society of Toronto seeks a Communications Specialist for a one year temporary assignment (with possible extension) with graphic design, web content design, web maintenance and creative writing experience to join its Communications Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall design, day to day operation, content management and maintenance of the Agency’s website. In addition, you will be involved in a variety of public and media relations activities including internal and external communications planning; researching, writing and designing communications materials and event planning.

Duties Include:

  • Researches, writes and edits a variety of public relations materials including matte articles, newsletters, news releases, backgrounders, key messages, web content, correspondence;
  • Prepares strategic internal and external communications and pro-active media relations plans; organizes news conferences, co-ordinates CCAS special events and campaigns, develops social media strategies and creates content;
  • Provides media relations support, including contentious issues management; responds to media requests for information, as assigned, and public requests for information regarding agency programs and services;
  • Undertakes a range of related responsibilities such as providing photography services for special events and maintaining photo files; provides administrative support as required;
  • Management of digital assets, including website, Intranet, social media, etc.
  • Working in a safe manner in accordance with the Society's Health and Safety Policies and procedures and all relevant legislation;
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications Required:

  • Post secondary education in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • 3 to 5 years experience in a similar capacity;
  • Ability, or knowledge of planning strategic internal and external public relations activities;
  • Initiative and creativity in developing written materials;
  • Ability, or knowledge of planning strategic internal and external public relations activities;
  • Knowledge of contentious issues management;
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and has the ability to communicate effectively at all levels;
  • Familiarity with developing social media strategies and content marketing including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube;
  • Familiarity with, or knowledge of media relations;
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills and interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of diverse communities and to resolve conflict in an effective manner;
  • Ability and skill to plan and co-ordinate events;
  • Strong project management and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, integrating the values in the CCAS Mission Statement, the principles of equity, justice, non-discrimination and accessibility into practice, service delivery and team relationships;
  • Demonstrated understanding of Society's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and relevant legislation.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act;
  • Principles and practices governing the context and practice of child protection work in the agency.
