The Communications Specialist is responsible for leading content creation, distribution strategy, and media output on marquee and strategic projects at Red Bull Canada, in alignment with national and global communications objectives. With a primary focus on Red Bull sport properties, events, athletes, projects and partnerships, the Communications Specialist (CS) works closely with their communications colleagues (moving images and digital marketing), and collaborates with their fellow marketing specialists (sports, events, brand, field and others) to construct breakthrough stories that reach our target audience via all appropriate media channels, including social media and web, television, print and radio.

AREAS THAT PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTHS

  • DEVELOP CREATIVE AND STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION AND CONTENT PLANS FOR SELECT RED BULL EVENTS, PROJECTS, ATHLETES AND RED BULL MEDIA HOUSE PRODUCTS

    • Build and manage communications plans for Red Bull projects, including the narrative and editorial offering for earned media coverage, complimentary content for owned channels (photo and video concepts), and the distribution approach for all relevant media channels (social media, digital, print, television and radio)

      Identify timely opportunities to creatively insert the Red Bull narrative/product/platforms/athletes into trending topics

      Contribute to year-round content, publicity and editorial plans for Red Bull Canada’s athlete roster, including creative and timely ways to show their unique use of the product

      Create and manage media assets, including still images, multimedia components, and press materials

      Utilize Red Bull events, athletes and opinion leaders to create brand experiences for media

      Contract and manage publicity contractors and agencies when required, steering their approach and measures of success.

  • DRIVE IMPACT AND OVERALL BRAND HEALTH BY LEVERAGING NATIONAL AND REGIONAL MEDIA PLATFORMS

    • Generate excitement and respect around our brand within the Canadian media landscape, working to coordinate coverage that reflects Red Bull’s values and is thoughtfully messaged in outlets that both resonate with core audiences and expands to new audiences

      Educate field marketing team and drive editorial strategy, be an expert editorial voice within the organization

      Develop and maintain strategic relationships with leading news outlets, social media outlets, media personalities and opinion leaders, as well as editorial leadership from endemic/specialized media across the sports landscape

      Harness these contacts to secure communication and content that translates the brand image and the product benefits

  • CONTRIBUTE TO RED BULL CONTENT DISTRIBUTION PLATFORMS

    Support video production, rights clearance, content licensing and distribution for Red Bull Media House content

    Expand photographer pool, stage shoots for our projects, and always seek out new contacts and talent from the video and photo community

  • DELIVER QUALITY EXECUTION, DRIVE INNOVATION AND SHARE BEST PRACTICES

    • Contribute to the annual business planning process

      Assist in identifying media opportunities to impact the key consumers and provide communication strategies to address our business needs

      Share and align the field on best communication practices through open communication, recaps and reports

      Track developments in conventional and new media to ensure we are able to harness the latest techniques, tactics and technologies. Learn from other markets and other brands, translate successful strategies and tactics to local markets

      Interface with Red Bull Media House, including moving images and digital media teams to ensure alignment and transfer best practice across the market

  • KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • Track record of innovation within the world of communications, content and storytelling: a strategic leader who takes initiative and ownership

      Excellent editorial skills and instincts: a strong writer who harnesses the ability to find the deeper narrative(s) within projects and tell them in various ways, including via content creation

      In-depth knowledge of the evolving Canadian and global media landscape, including trends, competitors, social networks, opinion leaders, and multi-platform media outlets

      Digital and social media expertise, including campaign planning and execution expertise

      Excellent organizational and project management skills, along with the ability to set deadlines and work independently

      Excellent professional communication and interpersonal skills, including personal presentation, email and telephone interaction

      Ability to work quickly and efficiently in an agile environment, and a high comfort level in proactive planning and reactive execution when opportunities are presented

      Ability to work and build relationships with a range of partners, stakeholders and external contractors

      Ability to influence and advise an organization, acting as an expert in your field

      A passion for the full spectrum of sports, including team and action sports

      An appreciation for the World of Red Bull and the surrounding culture of the organization

YOUR EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:

(proven performance in)

5+ years work experience in communications or editorially-focused media

  • University degree in Marketing, Communications, Media and/or a related discipline

  • Fluent in English, additional languages will be considered an asset
