Communications Manager

North Vancouver School District provides world-class instruction and a rich diversity of engaging programs to inspire success for every student. Our goal is to bring communities together to learn, share, and grow. Our employees enjoy a collegial work environment, competitive compensation, and fulfilling careers.

As Communications Manager, you will lead the School District’s strategic communications plan, manage its media presence, and help ensure that the North Vancouver’s priorities, goals, and objectives are fully understood and achieved.

A key role will be to ensure that the educational community and its stakeholders are appropriately informed and kept abreast of District’s programs, services, events, and accomplishments.

Your range of responsibilities will include organizing media events, producing news releases, creating promotional materials, and developing both internal and external written communications to help build awareness of the District’s initiatives. You will also be involved with information requests from the public.

As an expert communicator, you will methodically craft the District’s external messages, ensuring that the correct tone and level of detail resonates with the intended audience. You will also manage the flow of pertinent information to staff, students, parents, PAC, media, and local businesses, ensuring that communication between the District and its stakeholders is appropriate and timely.

In this role, your journalistic and media savvy skills will also be relied upon to support the Board of Education and Superintendent.  When required, you will coordinate media events, and assist the executive team in preparing accurate messages and appropriate responses to public enquiries. When incidental events or crises occur, your meticulous eye for detail and ability to produce tactful communications will be an asset.

In addition to producing written communications and coordinating media relations opportunities, you will also take the lead in producing marketing and promotional materials, and managing the District’s digital and social media presence.

We are looking for a skilled communicator with a minimum of five years’ experience in a marketing, communications or public relations role. The ideal candidate should also have a passion for education, and an understanding of the current issues affecting public education.

Our employees receive salary and benefits commensurate with the responsibilities of this position. We regret that we can only acknowledge and contact those selected for an interview.  This posting is ongoing until filled.

From coastal beaches to mountain forests, North Vancouver’s natural setting offers year-round recreational opportunities. The rich multiculturalism of our district is reflected in a wide array of programs and services, including our commitment to supporting the history, culture and traditions of the First Nations communities on whose traditional territories we are located. North Vancouver School District’s values of accountability, creativity, collaboration and collegiality make it “the natural place to learn” for students, and “the natural place to work” for our staff.
