The Web Designer is responsible for the design and development of major and minor Web components of the Workopolis site as well as assets for our customers.  The developer will design, develop, test and deliver landing pages and Wordpress templates, ad units and collateral. Your day-to-day role, besides producing excellent HTML and CSS, will be to push for great, consistent user experiences.

Here's what you'll get to do:

  • Ensure that every user interface you work on is impeccable—it looks and works great, and it’s consistent with our style guide.

  • Design and build pages in Wordpress. You should be able to demonstrate strong experience and a great portfolio with Wordpress implementations.

  • Create clean, standards-based HTML and CSS that we can add to our library. We want reusable code so that you can solve new problems instead of the same old ones.

  • Design wire-frames and simple HTML prototypes as the first step in creating new interfaces.

  • Test your work across browsers and platforms leveraging IE, Chrome and Firefox.

  • Demonstrate attention to every detail of the UI, down to the pixel, and the letter, and the markup that cuts down on the page load time, because that’s part of the user experience too.

Here's what you'll be responsible for:

  • Operating effectively as a member of the Marketing team, with dotted line access to Technology and Business Intelligence

  • Meeting expectations and deliverables on time and in high quality

  • Developing web components

  • Designing and developing web pages, graphics and multimedia

  • Understanding of page design principles

  • Effectively develops in a clean, well structured, easily maintainable format

  • Utilizing storyboarding and wire-framing where appropriate

  • Demonstrating creative, technical and analytical skills

Here's what you'll bring to the table:

  • You have successfully completed a College Diploma/University Degree in Web Design, Development, Graphic Design, Computer Science or a related field

  • You bring a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Web Designer and Developer

  • Including at least 1 year experience designing and building pages in Wordpress.

  • You have advanced knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3.

  • You have experience with Javascript and jQuery. Advanced knowledge of these would be a key asset.

  • You have a keen eye for design for both print and web

  • You have expert level experience with Adobe Creative Suite 5 or later, particularly Photoshop

  • Knowledge on search engine optimization (SEO), specifically how front-end coding practices can affect SEO

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

You would stand out if you have any of the following:

  • Work experience within a Marketing team

  • Visual Studio and ASP.Net

  • Version control tools such as TFS or GitHub

  • Visual design skills

  • Knowledge of user experience (UX) design and usability principles

  • A passion for great user experiences and interfaces. You love to find, share, and talk with peers about great UX or UI design.

  • Experience with wire-framing or prototyping software, especially Axure

  • Proficiency in French
