We are looking to add an experienced Technical Writer to our Marketing team. The Technical Writer will report directly to the Technical Communications Manager and be part of the Marketing department. A successful applicant will collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to develop our corporate technical content. Role Responsibilities:

  • Author technical documentation in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Work closely with developers, quality assurance professionals, subject matter experts, and project managers as a key member of the marketing and development team.
  • Research, gather, and synthesize disparate information from various sources into cohesive, audience-friendly documents.
  • Develop and manage deliverables according to the Research and Development (R & D) Gate process (a combination of Release Gate and Agile methodologies).
  • Apply Reliable Controls style guide standards, in addition to the standards described in the Microsoft Manual of Style and the Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Work independently while prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Proactively contribute to improvements  in technical documentation, quality assurance, and the overall development process.
  • Apply best practices from the domains of technical writing, UI/UX, and graphic design.
  • Work with advanced HTML and CSS to create documentation in various output formats.
  • Understand Reliable Controls products and how they’re used.
  • Understand concepts and terminology used in the HVAC industry.
  • Understand, use, and describe complex networking concepts.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in technical writing.
  • Experience as a technical writer for a technology company; software, hardware, electrical engineering is preferred.
  • Post-secondary education in technical communications, business communications, business analysis, or journalism.
  • Experience in applying the principles described in the Microsoft Manual of Style, the Chicago Manual of Style, and the use of plain language.
  • Practical experience using Madcap Flare in a production environment.
  • Practical experience working with HTML and CSS.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and databases.
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines and multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven skills in managing technical interviews with subject matter experts.
