Role

As part of the Ministry of Innovation and Advanced Education (IAE), the Enterprise Division works collaboratively with industry, communities and government partners to create pathways for sustainable economic growth. The Economic Development Policy & Analysis Branch is responsible for keeping the public informed about Alberta's economic performance in relevant and innovative formats. We have an existing roster of information products (such as the Alberta Economic Dashboard) and continuously keep them updated to leading-edge standards.

The Enterprise Division is searching for someone with marketing and social media expertise to ensure the public is aware of these products and remains engaged with them. Reporting to the Director, Economic Information & Statistics, this role will also help to create and develop the products themselves. Being able to tell a story through the visualization of data is critical, whether through infographics, reports, or web applications.

Develop Networks: As an early adopter of technology and social media, you will be asked to create a community of users to enhance the interaction with Enterprise and Albertans. This will be accomplished by both leading and participating on projects that connect the public with the information we provide. You will also potentially need to create networks within the department and with other departments to see your ideas properly implemented.

Creative Problem Solving: You will need to have the confidence to suggest and follow through on innovative new ways of connecting with our users. Because this area is constantly evolving, you will need stay up-to-date on emerging web trends and understand how they can be leveraged to reach new traffic milestones.

Agility: As you implement your selected social media and marketing strategies, you will need to constantly evaluate the performance of those strategies and be flexible enough to modify them or change course if the desired results are not being achieved.

Skills needed for success include:

  • Highly developed social media acumen, preferably someone who has built a large social media following;
  • Practical experience with design software, such as Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator;
  • Excellent writing skills for a non-technical audience;
  • Experience with web analytics tools, such as Google Analytics
  • Ability to work with and format data in Microsoft Excel;
  • Any exposure to computer programming is considered an asset;
  • Passion for technology, keeping informed about new internet trends and tools;
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of cross-disciplinary teams.
Creative resumes, video cover letters and samples of graphic design work are encouraged.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field (Marketing, Business Administration, Graphic Design) plus 2 years progressively responsible working with social platforms including but not limited to: Familiarity working with Twitter, LinkedIn, and other current social media platforms. Experience with graphic design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, is a requirement. Demonstrated expertise in project management is an asset. Experience with Google Analytics is an asset.

Salary

$2,469.35 to $3,238.98 bi-weekly
