Senior Design Strategist

Is planning, designing and production of creative materials your expertise? If so, then this position with the Communications Services Branch may be right for you.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

  • lead the planning, development and production of creative products and materials
  • plan and coordinate all corporate ministry graphic design elements
  • liaise with ministry program areas, stakeholders and ministry partners to provide communications advisory services to support ministry business needs
  • provide advice on creative product options, timing and cost estimates and recommend best methods
  • lead the development and coordination of communication product plans and projects
  • design and/or coordinate the development and production of customized creative digital and print products
  • develop production proposals in terms of content, format, planning and technical requirements
  • negotiate contracts with external service providers, oversee activities and ensure overall quality of deliverables

How do I qualify?

Technical Expertise:

  • you have demonstrated knowledge of theories, principles and methods of large-scale planning and coordination of communications services within digital media applications, social media trends and tools
  • you have knowledge of graphic design methods, art direction, software and practices including typography techniques, type design, layout, UI design, video production (including shooting video, editing and digital dissemination), placement, style and layout production using traditional and digital image editing tools
  • you have sound knowledge of digital communications, content development, marketing and branding to ensure that content of materials reaches an expanded target audience/user base
  • you have proven ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures and regulatory and legislative requirements
  • you have knowledge of desktop/web publishing and graphic art software applications to facilitate computer image manipulation and creation
  • you have experience with print production and procurement processes

Strategic Thinking and Analytical Skills:

  • you have strong strategic thinking and analytical skills to identify and analyze client needs
  • you have analytical skills to assess and recommend best methods to promote education and outreach
  • you have evaluative skills to design products that meet client requirements and are aligned to corporate and ministry objectives

Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Skills:

  • you have demonstrated problem-solving skills to quickly identify and resolve design related issues pertaining to products in a quick and timely manner
  • you have decision-making skills to make assessment and judgment calls

Project Management and Organizational Skills:

  • you have planning and organizational skills to plan, prioritize and coordinate projects for the Ministry
  • you have ability to reconcile competing requests for services and ensure that deadlines and approvals are met

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

  • you have verbal communication skills to interact with clients, suppliers and liaise with ministry program areas
  • you have written communication skills to write/edit materials
  • you have customer service and interpersonal skills to promote digital strategies, approaches, action plans, products and social media initiatives
  • you have experience working with and managing external agencies and third party vendors

Salary range: $1,334.22 – $1,632.56 per week
