POSITION SUMMARY:
The Public Relations Manager provides broad creative and administrative communications support to the Commercial Management team, taking on projects and assignments in multiple disciplines. The Public Relations Manager will focus primarily on community and stakeholder engagement, along with the development and distribution of communications materials specifically related to the Southwest Calgary Ring Road (SWCRR) construction project.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily reporting to the Commercial Manager, SWCRR DB
  • Daily contact with Manager, Communications, SWCRR Constructor (TBC)
  • Twice monthly updates to the Project Director, SWCRR DB
  • Regular contact with SWCRR DB and Construction Teams
  • Regular contact with the Alberta Transportation Department, especially Communications
  • Issue driven contact with Kiewit, Graham and Ledcor Corporate Communications
  • Regular contact with various Stakeholders including municipal government and First Nations
  • Regular communication with general public, responding in a timley manner to a variety of enquiries on the project
  • Main lead of the SWCRR Communications Team (composed of the DB and Constructor communications managers)
  • Oversees all creative and administrative aspects of proactive communications undertaken regarding the ongoing South West Calgary Ring Road (SCRR) construction project including writing and distributing construction and traffic notifications and website material including progress reports
  • Attends weekly SWCRR traffic and construction meetings, and interacts regularly with traffic manager and construction team to communicate updates and revisions to the general public and all stakeholders
  • Attends regular Alberta Transportation SWCRR communications meetings
  • Responsible for issuing traffic and construction (noise and dust) advisories, website updates, social media and email updates
  • Coordinates all traffic notices with Alberta Transportation 511 traffic communication system
  • Supportsall media relations activities with Alberta Transportation communications
  • Acts as public web-site administrator for the SWCRR construction communications team, and manages the webmaster (third party)
  • Coordinates mail-outs, advertisements, email list management, email distribution, etc.
  • Coordinates or collaborates on SWCRR photography requirements, including updates and logistics
  • Coordinates or collaborates SWCRR public events and annual open houses, including logistics and developing marketing materials
  • Creates and revises multiple documents within Photoshop, or similar, as necessary.  Including, but not limited to: notices, advisories, flyers, news releases, maps, forms, etc.  Or, through third party suppliers
  • Offers a wide range of support to the SWCRR Communications team, including gathering information, uploading content, updating the project website, keeping and updating contact lists (post and email) and attending events
  • Maintains communications and public relations database with up-to-date information on a regular basis
  • May perform other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Communications, Journalism or related field
  • Minimum five years of experience in a public relations or stakeholder engagement role
  • Minimum three years of experience in a communications role
  • Preferably with experience in Aboriginal Relations or a good understanding of Aboriginal communities and people in Canada
  • Preferably with experience in the construction industry
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to understand your audience
  • Highly detail oriented
  • Broad business and industry knowledge
  • Proficiency with MS Office; experience with Adobe Suite preferred
  • Experience with web-publishing and content management systems (CMS), and with Word Press (preferred)
  • Understanding of geography, maps, highway systems, traffic management
  • Understanding of branding and marketing
  • Adaptable, with a willingness to take on a wide range of assignments and tasks
  • Ability to work with key stakeholders including First Nations
  • Comfortable with public speaking at open houses or other events
