Kwantlen Polytechnic University has an immediate opening for a full-time permanent Media Specialist to work in our Marketing and Communications department located on our Surrey campus. Reporting to the Director, Marketing and Communications, the Media Specialist will establish, encourage and maintain strong business relationships with media outlets and personnel in order to advance stories and obtain comprehensive publicity for the University, its departments, programs, students and faculty.
The Media Specialist is responsible for researching, writing, editing and distributing press releases and related information to local media and utilizing public relations software to monitor ongoing feedback, and track and analyze results. The successful candidate will edit copy for the department and for University marketing collateral that will successfully promote and increase institutional awareness and provide exceptional client/department centered service university-wide.
Required skills and qualifications include a degree or diploma in Journalism, Public Relations or Communications with a minimum 2 year’s experience with writing/editing content and public relations documents, press releases and content for marketing collateral. An equivalent combination of education, 3 years’ experience and training may be acceptable – proven with a current portfolio. In addition the successful candidate will require recent related experience in a media relations role. Demonstrated experience in contacting media with stories to successfully highlight organizational achievements is a must as well as advanced writing, editing and proofreading skills for communication vehicles that deliver key messages to both general and highly targeted audiences.
