Duties:
This position is a contract for 6 1/2 months. Supervised by the Marketing Manager, the Marketing Coordinator / Writer will be responsible for:

  • Coordination Duties – approximately 75% - 90% of time
  • Work on marketing projects as assigned
  • Social network site monitoring: Monitor all existing Mount Royal social network sites in order to maintain and/or enhance institutional presence on same
  • Media planning: assist with current media planning database; investigate and bring forward new or alternative media opportunities for consideration
  • Writing Duties: approximately 10% - 15% of time
  • Develop relevant creative concepts and well-crafted copy for institutional, faculty and department marketing communications within a team as well as independently, often to tight deadlines

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will bring a combination of a minimum of 2 years education in marketing, P.R. or communications combined with experience in project organization, writing for print and web and/or dealing with outside vendors and suppliers; and a solid understanding of core marketing concepts. Specifically:

  • Marketing knowledge: Good grasp of marketing principles and best practice including both traditional and word-of-mouth strategies; awareness and interest in current advertising and marketing media including social media
  • Work style and effectiveness: An accomplished multi-tasker with a commitment to deadlines; ability to successfully coordinate a project from start to finish; excellent attention to detail; the flexibility to communicate efficiently with multiple individuals and groups, collaborate within a team or work independently, as required by the project or situation
  • Writing skill: Demonstrable ability to transform detailed information into engaging, motivating copy in both long and short copy applications; and to search and find strong content for writing, either through independent research or interaction with subject matter experts
