Department Overview:
This position resides within our Marketing department which is responsible for building brand recognition, trust and loyalty to the organization through the development and execution of effective marketing communications.

Major responsibilities:
BASIC FUNCTION: To provide graphic design expertise for the development of marketing materials

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conceptualize, design, and produce a wide range of graphic and illustrative material including campaign materials, publications, newsletters, ads, brochures, posters, and promotional materials under the direction of the Manager, Graphic Design
  • Attend and art direct offsite photo shoots with donors, and/or agencies, in absence of Manager, Graphic Design
  • Consult with internal clients to ascertain needs in developing graphic concepts and specifications for assigned projects. Research graphic elements to determine their suitability for design concepts
  • Design and produce artwork including graphs, charts, clip art, posters, digitally manipulate graphics and photographs. Prepare and upload files for print and/or publication
  • Create electronically designed page layouts and imports word processing files into page layouts for web use
  • In consultation with the Production Coordinator, determine printing and other reproduction specifications (ink, paper, provides advice on print quality), inspect proofs for layout and design accuracy
  • Create templates for various projects (i.e. certificates, letterheads, business cards, Power Point presentations)
  • Maintain project folders on the shared drive, both internal to the department and on the intranet site for the organization, to ensure available materials are easily referenced and available to all relevant stakeholders
  • Maintain the United Way image bank, creating file taxonomy, making selects from photo shoots, and ensuring relevant photo release forms are properly stored
  • Input changes and corrections for assigned materials, maintaining a consistently low error-rate
  • Responsible for maintaining a broad and deep understanding of the organizational brand and ensuring the visual identity of that brand is accurately and consistently maintained in all assigned materials
  • Responsible for understanding scope of projects and consistently meeting production deadlines determined by the Coordinator, Budget and Production.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • More than 1 year and up to and including 3 years of experience working as a graphic designer
  • Proficient knowledge and demonstrated experience working with Adobe Creative Suite 4 is required
  • Certificate/diploma/degree or equivalent in graphic design
  • A commitment to understanding diverse audiences and experience in accessible design standards an asset
  • Solution-oriented and an ability to make sound and timely decisions within the scope of the position
  • Committed to excellence in work quality and a keen attention to detail
  • Proven organizational abilities and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and constituent service skills including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with a diverse set of constituents
  • Focused on meeting or exceeding challenging goals in a fast-paced environment
