Are you a networker extraordinaire?

Kudoz is looking for a Community Campaigner/Marketer

Who we are

Kudoz is a first-of-its kind social start-up, embedded within three large developmental disability service providers. We are a team of designers, teachers, community mobilizers, lyricists, cyclists, and mad bakers. We don’t just bring part of ourselves to work, we bring it all: the good, the quirky, the wildly unimaginable. We work hard and we learn hard. Whether it’s putting on a growth mindset party, having karaoke showdowns, or organizing RV outreach tours, we’re all about challenging ourselves to grow and reach new heights. The question is: are you ready for a challenge?

What we do

Kudoz enables adults with developmental disabilities, their families, and staff to experience the surprise, discomfort, and joy of learning. We host an online catalogue with 100+ in-person learning experiences, facilitated by community members with passions to share. We support adults to use the catalogue, and our App, to widen & deepen their interests; grow their social networks; develop soft & hard skills; and build their reflective muscles. We do all of this because we think everyone should have a life filled with growth and novelty and joy.

The role: Community Campaigner/Marketer

The Campaigner role is one of our innovations. It’s a very different kind of job than typically exists within social service organizations. Campaigners find and transform a passionate community member into a dazzling Kudoz host: a volunteer who offers a one-hour learning experience to someone living with a cognitive disability. The Campaigner coaches and troubleshoots with hosts to ensure learning experiences are of high quality and run smoothly. All our learning experiences are featured in an online catalogue (catalogue.kudoz.ca) The Campaigner systematically tracks activity in our online catalogue to uncover trends and better target our marketing & support efforts.

Campaigners are total people persons, with a dose of data nerdiness! They get a kick out of building and deepening relationships with everyone from Geologists to Yoga Instructors to Kickboxing fanatics to CEOs of businesses. They have a knack for energizing people, overcoming barriers, and ensuring things run smoothly. They get that the devil is always in the details. They are able to analyze and use data to take a strategic approach to the day-to-day.

This is a maternity cover position. We’ll start with a 6-month contract, with the possibility of extending to 12 months. Because Kudoz is growing, we see all sorts of future pathways after that time. Get in on the ground floor!

Who you are

You are an eclectic lifelong learner and networker. You’re a curious soul, who really enjoys learning and challenge. You’ve got tonnes of interests, a robust personal network, and aren’t afraid to tap into those networks to make groovy things happen.

You have a background in business, marketing, sales, and/or training. You have a degree in business, communications, urban studies, anthropology, or anything related plus 5+ years experience in relevant roles. You have the ability and tenacity to approach community members, retirees, students, and businesses to add to our growing community of hosts. Door knocking doesn’t scare you. Cold calling is no problem. You are able to work within tight deadlines and targets to deliver Kudoz. At the same time, you are able to envision the big picture, adapt plans, and develop fresh marketing strategies.

You are a compelling communicator who is able to craft digital and face-to-face communication that inspires, excites, and moves individuals and businesses to act. This means you are savvy across channels, including social media. You know what makes for a good value proposition. You are just as comfortable making the pitch in a formal boardroom to presenting to an informal meet-up.

You are a capacity builder who is able to quickly establish trust and rapport with people, draw out their strengths, and shape what they can offer. You get that we’re a volunteer platform, and are excited to ensure volunteers have a seamless and meaningful experience with Kudoz.

You are a self-starter and systems thinker who is detail oriented, able to task manage, and effectively prioritize. You’re a tech enthusiast and use a slew of web-based tools to stay organized and efficient. You don’t expect structure to be provided for you, and are able to help design systems to improve work flow.

You are a relentless team player, and like working with people who have very different skill sets. You think work is stronger when it’s the product of a collaborative process. You’re happy to step in and help out wherever is needed.

You have some familiarity (even if it’s from afar) with start-up cultures and have read

about user-centered design and prototyping. You are attracted to the notion of being part of something where there are high expectations, but failure is a possibility. Our ambition is to replicate and spread Kudoz…which means most everything we do has to be codified! We’re still a long way from fully functional systems, so you’re willing to be part of a work in progress.

You are flexible. Kudoz isn’t your ordinary 9-5pm job. Events and experiences take place in the evenings and on weekends. You’ll be cool with monitoring what’s happening after hours, and won’t be bothered by having a Kudoz phone on you to respond to urgent inquiries.
