UX Director(User Experience) is responsible for leading, designing, and developing the user experience strategy. With an approach that's both business data and user goal driven, this individual champions and drives a best-in-class user experience and visual design for NETGEAR’s products.

Responsibilities

  • Visualization of the customer journey in the abstract, and driving the vision into solid design deliverables such as prototypes and work flows
  • Direct and develop UX artifacts including streamlined scenarios, storyboards, information architecture, wireframes, and interactive prototypes
  • Lead in-house UX team and external vendors in setting priorities on user interface projects across product lines, and define the scope and tasks for each project
  • Collaborate with client (service provider) UX or marketing teams to ensure UX designs meet business goals, are approved, and integrates flawlessly with service provider portals or data usage statistics
  • Lead the graphic design team and deliver visual treatment specifications for the user interface which are compliant with the NETGEAR brand
  • Provide tactical recommendations on the user interface based on internal usability research results and external UX design trends
  • Measure the effectiveness of the design by managing usability tests prior to launch, and defining and tracking key user experience metrics such as click paths, and usage metrics post-launch
  • Use focus groups to trial and gain feedback of new UI architectures
  • Provide feedback to PLM team on UI functional requests that impact the MRD or CRD
  • Establish a coherent strategy on the user experience crossing multiple platforms, from the product UI (LCD/LED), mobile app, desktop app, to webUI
  • Understand complex, distributed systems, and speak on a technical level with programmers
  • Develop best practices and strong internal design processes for world-class user experience
  • Anticipate and makes significant changes to improve products
  • Prioritize User Experience work to align with corporate brand and business objectives
  • Plan innovative changes to UI design, information architecture, strategy, development processes and organizational capabilities/structure
  • Create a user experience vision and strategy
  • Drive decision-making around pattern selection for design pattern libraries based on professional knowledge and understanding of usability issues and best practices

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum 8-10 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, product designer or similar role designing mobile, web, and/or other on-device applications the complete product development lifecycle of several UI/UE projects successfully.

3+ years managing UX function, preferred

  • Experience in defining information architecture and interaction design for complex software or web applications
  • Strong knowledge of user interface design processes and methodology, particularly as applied to Web-based applications and consumer electronics
  • Knowledge of capabilities and limitations of web standards and conventions relating to databases, browsers, content management systems, operating systems, software packages, standard mark-up and languages (such as HTML, XHTML, Flash/Flex, CSS, JavaScript, XML, ActionScript, Java, SQL, ASP, and JSP). Knowledge of Rich Internet Application (RIA) technologies such as HTML5 and Ajax.
  • Must have a strong sense of graphic design, layout, color, and style, and also have a deep appreciation for simple, sleek, usable interfaces
  • Strong ability to think technically as it pertains to understanding the benefits, possibilities and constraints of common coding languages and platforms; actual coding experience a plus
  • Must be well-versed in user testing methodologies
  • Strong online portfolio demonstrating clean, intuitive, and functional user-centered UX design across desktop and mobile devices
  • Experience with prototyping/wire framing tools, such as Visio, Composer, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Fireworks.
  • Vast experience with mobile platforms, including mobile phones, smartphones, and/or tablets
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences at various levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment
  • Fluency in best practices for mobile and application information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques
  • Experience with user testing and conducting user interviews
  • Understanding of cross-browser and cross-design issues with regards to usability and design

Bachelor’s Degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Engineering Psychology, or related user research field

Masters in Human-Computer Interaction or Human Centered Design, preferred
