Reports To:     Vice President, Development

Position Description:

The Digital Philanthropy Officer has the opportunity to shape the Development Team’s fundraising digital presence and engage our current and prospective new donors. By using the power of technology, this role can jump start a digital revolution in philanthropy!

The primary responsibility of the Digital Philanthropy Officer is to create and implement a digital plan that will raise funds online for the many programs we offer and for current capital campaigns, while playing a key role in stewarding our potential funders and donors. Within the context of Science World’s overall digital strategy and activities, this position will manage the Development web page, create customizable online donor experiences, and promote online fundraising programs from crowdfunding to social media fundraising awareness campaigns. As a creative online fundraising specialist, the Digital Philanthropy Officer will provide content management, create a web presence that inspires action, manage email campaigns, and create the stories that will build an active vibrant online donor community, showing the impact of their investment in the children, youth and adults Science World serves.

Reporting to the Vice President, Development, the Digital Philanthropy Officer will contribute to the development of financial and activity targets for his/her portfolio and is savvy in understanding and providing measurable metrics and other analytical data that can help determine the success of each online fundraising campaign. The ideal candidate is a strong team player and is very familiar with web usage, online fundraising, social media and user experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages and prepares Development e-blasts, e-invitations, e-newsletters, email campaigns, forms, web pages and other web projects in collaboration with the Development Team and other internal departments
  • Participates as a member of Science World’s Digital Team and uses the technical support offered by the individual digital team members
  • Creates an online donor experience that reflects Science World’s mission and fundraising goals
  • Develops an annual work plan that includes targeted strategies using segmentation and based on user interest, identifies activities, and participates in setting financial targets, timelines and reporting
  • Builds online donor recruitment, creates and manages all crowdfunding campaigns including any video content needed
  • Engages and communicates with donors and prospective donors through promotion and updates on fundraising events/campaigns and recognition and stewardship reports
  • Manages the Development Team’s social media accounts and blogging activities
  • Establishes measurable metrics and analytical data to determine the success of online fundraising awareness and fundraising campaigns
  • Monitors digital fundraising analytics and fundraising results, and leads improvements in processes in response to the data
  • Integrates online constituents in other fundraising programs and tracks activities in Raiser’s Edge
  • Prioritizes projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner, meets deadlines and manages supplemental material required online
  • Collects, organizes and maintains photos throughout the year for use in Development digital projects
  • Stays current on industry tools and trends including social media; continually learning and implementing new technical skills to improve our fundraising presence and success
  • Participates in overall department strategies to continue to enhance overall donor relations
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of fundraising and stewardship events
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Minimum 3 years fundraising and digital marketing experience including online fundraising, e-newsletters and content management best practices
  • Experience with content and donor relationships management systems.  Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge/fundraising database is a substantial plus
  • Knowledge and awareness of the role of social media in fundraising and its execution
  • Experience in crowdfunding campaigns using platforms such as FundRazr, Indiegogo and Chimp
  • Digital fluency and digital media savvy with technologies and distribution points like outbound email, social, websites, Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing
  • Knowledge of other web development and digital marketing tools a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong ability to write clearly structured and articulated stories
  • Sound knowledge of online fundraising campaigns, donor cycle and stewardship strategies
  • Strong project coordination skills, including ability to work proactively and efficiently, set priorities with proven success and meet overlapping deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail and strong interpersonal and donor relations skills
  • Ability to work independently and function as an integral part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite and the ability to learn other software programs as needed
