Your enthusiasm and extensive experience as an internal communications manager will help the City – an employer of some 11,000 employees – to achieve its organizational and business goals.

As the Strategic Advisor you will be involved in planning and strategizing, managing a team, consulting and advising leaders regarding communication for employee-facing projects and programs, as well as driving the communication of significant, organization-wide initiatives. In this role you will report to the Director of Internal Communications within the Corporate Communications Branch and you will understand how to use new media, how to motivate employees and change behaviours as well as how to apply marketing models to increase the success of communications efforts. You will also:

  • Drive high priority cross-organizational internal communications programs (such as Cite file, Workspace Edmonton, and Culture project)
  • Oversee the development, coordination and production of communication vehicles including video, print publications, briefings, intranet design and content
  • Provide strategic communications advice and guidance at various levels
  • Find ways to continuously improve our efforts to deliver efficient and effective strategic internal communications through process improvements and best practices
  • Develop / revise corporate internal communication channels, procedures and practices through auditing current practices and channels, researching alternatives and proposing appropriate changes / additions
  • Lead, manage, motivate and inspire professional communicators who develop and implement communications plans on behalf of their clients
  • Participate in the leadership of the Corporate Communications Branch
  • Ensure internal communications activities empower employees to act as ambassadors for the City’s reputation
  • Lead the adoption of Google Apps to support communication and collaboration
  • Help create the environment, opportunities, and culture that will make the City of Edmonton one of the top preferred employers in Edmonton
  • Recommend budget and resource requirements for corporate internal communications activities
  • Manage communication contractors

Qualifications
:

  • University degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible communications experience. Experience in a large, complex organization is an asset
  • Experience and knowledge in internal/employee communications
  • Thorough knowledge and demonstrated results in the effective application of best-practice strategic communications approaches, processes and services
  • Demonstrated leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven program, strategic communications planning, and project management skills
  • Proven ability to effectively and strategically work in a dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment
  • A positive outlook that feeds into a positive, productive working relationships with clients

Hours of Work: 36.90 Hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.

Salary Range: 91M, Salary Grade: PT4, $94,986 - $135,694 (Annually).
