Position Summary:

Coquitlam Heritage is looking for an experienced communications and community outreach professional to join our team. You enjoy an empowered, creative work environment and are very good at problem solving. You are a team player who works well individually and can shift priorities to help other team members when their projects need an extra hand; you know when your projects need the team’s input or support and are comfortable asking for it. You enjoy meeting new people, connecting them to members of the team, and building community awareness of a social brand that you helped create. You are an excellent written, spoken, and visual communicator.

Coquitlam Heritage aims to build a team that reflects the immense diversity of residents found in Coquitlam. Minimum Qualifications:

  • University degree in communications, public relations, media, marketing or other related disciplines
  • Two (2+) years of experience in Communications and should include some of each of public relations, marketing, community engagement, and promotions; experience in non-profit environment is an asset, but not required
  • Experience in community outreach and building community partnerships
  • Superior public speaking, interpersonal, and intercultural skills required with experience in engagement of youth, families, seniors, and the numerous communities within Coquitlam considered an asset
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion and the intersecting issues that impact marginalized identities (knowledge from lived experience is considered an asset)
  • Proven success in researching and completing winning grant applications required; demonstrated knowledge in fundraising capacity and methodology a definite asset
  • Knowledge and strong skills in public relations and the development and distribution of media releases; government relations experience is an asset
  • Demonstrated creative ability and attention to detail required
  • Proficiency in a Windows environment using Microsoft Office Suite and with current social media and design software applications (InDesign, Illustrator, WordPress, Square Space, Canva, internal databases, social media platforms, etc.)
  • Demonstrated success with multimedia (Facebook Live, Zoom meetings/webinars, photography, and event streaming, for example) is a definite asset
  • Strong administrative, analytical, research, and organizational skills required
  • Proficiency in another language besides English is an asset
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle required

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Communications and Community Engagement:

  • Develop and implement communications, community engagement, and media relations programs and strategies to build awareness, profile, and understanding of Coquitlam Heritage, ensuring integration with our vision, priorities, goals, and Strategic Plan
  • Develop and produce communication materials using digital, print, and other channels
  • Maintain the organization’s website, writing or coordinating the creation of blog articles, and updating the events listing with exciting, engaging descriptions using information from the Programmes Manager
  • Document and share events and other Society activities through photography, media clippings and filing, and social media
  • Coordinate social media strategies including content creation, maintaining a presence on appropriate platforms, monitoring and tracking outreach, and maintaining a current knowledge of emerging technologies
  • Build and maintain relationships with appropriate bloggers, community and business partners, and media outlets
  • Plan and coordinate media and community engagement activities and campaigns including presentations to the community and various groups (including the annual membership drive)
  • Provide writing and editing support to ensure branding is consistent and cohesively represented through out the organization (internally and externally)

Fundraising, Marketing, and Community Relations:

  • Develop and execute a short and long-range fundraising strategy
  • Lead researching grant opportunities and writing grant applications, working with the Administrative Coordinator for budgeting details
  • Develop strong community partnerships that offer positive community relations and fundraising opportunities
  • Represent the organization during community events and engagement initiatives
  • Work with members of the community and solicit media coverage to enhance public awareness and understanding of Coquitlam Heritage’s services

Organizational Support:

  • Contribute to an equitable, safe, and healthy workplace. Contribute to a learning-focused and inclusive culture
  • Keep the Executive Director informed of all current issues and potential situations, which may have repercussions for the Society
  • Provide assistance to other team members with special projects or events
  • Make recommendations regarding annual communication budget requirements
  • Complete an annual evaluation and report of community outreach and engagement activities
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Position Details:

This position is 35 hours per week, with some of these hours worked on weekends and evenings depending on the community engagement requirements and events schedule. The position includes three paid weeks of vacation plus paid time off during the winter holiday, family responsibility leave, and sick time. After three months, the incumbent will be eligible for extended health benefits and inclusion into the Municipal Pension Plan. Salary commensurate with experience.
