You are a communications specialist with a passion for design. A key position on the communications team, you are the operational lead on design, social media, mass emails and website. You’re a natural story-teller and will play an essential role in raising internal and external awareness of the Centre’s reputation as a global centre for knowledge and practice on dialogue. You can balance the plan with being reactive in the moment and can navigate the flow and complexity of a dynamic office. Blending strong operational technical skills with a creative edge, you excel at turning a strategy into reality, operationalizing ideas and getting it done.

SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue fosters shared understanding and positive action through dialogue and engagement. As a trusted convener and hub for community initiatives, the Centre has engaged hundreds of thousands of participants to create solutions for many of society's most pressing issues, and actively support student learning through experiential education opportunities.

Responsabilities

A. Implements the Centre’s operational communications activities to ensure positive engagement between the Centre and key audiences by:

  • Collaborating with the Manager, Communications to develop ideas on content and design, writing content, and collecting, and editing materials (e.g., links, images, copy)
  • Designing and producing visual elements including branding assets, social media graphics, data visualizations, and report formatting, for use online and in digital and print materials
  • Supporting the design, writing, editing and production of reports and/or marketing materials (i.e. graphic and video products) and ensuring that all communication products have a clear/distinct voice and narrative
  • Creating, monitoring, and posting daily social media content (e.g., Facebook, Twitter)
  • Updating and maintaining the website, ensuring that web pages comply with appropriate policies, guidelines, design and standards
  • Researching, collecting, and writing website content for the Centre for Dialogue and Semester in Dialogue, adding tags for search engine optimization, and supporting website re-development
  • Supporting internal communications between SFU faculty and staff
  • Assisting with promotional activities for the Semester in Dialogue program and supporting communications activities related to experiential education and engagement with SFU faculty members
  • Researching, collecting, and organizing key contacts and list-building of key stakeholders in departmental CRM database (e.g. community partners, media contacts, newsletter subscribers)
  • Supporting promotion for events, programs and partner initiatives

B. Assists with implementing strategic communications to establish the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue as a global centre for knowledge and practice on dialogue by:

  • Researching new content and story ideas and contributing to media releases that promote the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, its projects, programs, fellows, and events
  • Conducting research, preparing reports and working with the Communications Manager to develop and implement communications strategies
  • Preparing and tracking metrics using analytics platforms (e.g. Google Analytics, Hootsuite) to examine performance of webpages, posts and content

C. Evaluates communication and engagement content by:

  • Monitoring and evaluating communications activities across all platforms to confirm alignment with the Centre’s mission, and vision, as well as programmatic goals
  • Assisting with periodic brand audits and tracking ongoing communication metrics

D. Assists with implementation of strategic communications support for dialogue and public engagement projects, including fee-for-service projects as part of the Centre’s social enterprise

E. Carries out associated administrative responsibilities by:

  • Contributing to development of internal procedures and policies, as these pertain to communications for the Centre.
  • Participating in Centre for Dialogue programs and events, including evening and weekend events.
  • Coordinating other special projects and/or events as assigned

Impact of Decision Making

The Communications Associate is responsible for:

  • Identifying and creating written, design and video content for print and digital marketing initiatives
  • Determining relevant, engaging and effective social media posts to promote the Centre
  • Responding to inquiries and complaints received through the public forum of social media

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Marketing, or other related field and one year of related experience in areas such as dialogue, engagement, and content creation or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of creative design software tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite etc.).
  • Excellent knowledge of print and electronic media, blogs, and social media tools including statistics reporting and tracking.
  • Excellent copy writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Good knowledge of web maintenance (e.g., AEM, Drupal, WordPress, HTML, CSS, SEO).
  • Good knowledge of performance measurement tools (e.g., digital analytics software) for various online communications and marketing purposes.
  • Good knowledge of standard office applications, desktop publishing software, content management systems and survey tools (e.g., MS Office, SurveyMonkey).
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to rewrite news media and social media content into concise and accessible language for a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
