Let’s just jump right in here. This role is complex and exciting. It’s also fast-paced and you need to enjoy being quick on your feet. If you’ve worked the #agencylife before and thrived in it, then we are off to a good start. Read on.

The Shelf is a full-service influencer marketing creative + strategy agency with our own proprietary SaaS platform. We use our in-house software to plan, execute, manage, and optimize our clients’ campaigns start to finish. The “start to finish” is where you come in, because you will be running our campaigns… and trust me when I say you will be leading the charge because you’ll be co-managing anywhere from 6-11+ large-scale influencer marketing campaigns for our clients. Think Instagram Reels, Tiktok challenges, and Pinterest pins, oh my!

This is a remote position. If your brain just registered “remote” as easy-peasy lemon squeezy, then maybe check out Upwork instead… because we expect a HIGH level of commitment and communication in this role. We are a small team of 20 (and growing) and each person’s efforts are crucial to our success. If you are someone who takes initiative and aims to support your team and clients in the best possible way, it will be noticed and you will have plenty (PLENTY!) of opportunity to grow with the company.

You will be working remotely during typical business hours and interacting with our team and clients on the regular so get ready to show your face on Google Hangouts. We are looking for someone who is equal measures of a lot of things - kind yet firm, sassy yet smart, cool yet humble. Serious about doing their job yet doesn’t take themselves too seriously. If you’ve got an ego or an attitude, you won’t make it past the first interview. The Account Management team is really nice, collaborative, and helpful. We expect the same sort of kickass attitude from you.

Components of This Role

Co-managing campaigns...

Each account manager co-manages at least 6-11+ campaigns at any given point in time, depending on the complexity of the campaign. You’'ll need to stay on top of the status of each of your campaigns, as well as keep your manager informed. At the start of a campaign, you'll be working closely with your client to collect all remaining details needed to hammer out a formal campaign brief.

Influencer selection...

You'll also be in charge of selecting relevant influencers based on the campaign requirements AND your client's preferences. This includes influencer outreach and negotiations to gauge each influencer’s interest in the product to be featured. (It would be nice if you have some experience here.)

Client approvals...

As the campaign progresses, there will be various rounds of client approvals, including their final influencer selections and post approval. This will require you to be in constant communication with influencers to guide them through the process.

Official influencer liaison...

Throughout the campaign you'll be working very closely with the influencers themselves... negotiating, building relationships, checking their work, answering questions, providing suggestions, helping them to complete their deliverables, ensuring all requirements have been met, and validating all tracking-related code is intact and correctly installed.

Reports...

You will also be creating a report at the end for the campaign, which we'll share over a presentation with our clients. This is where you need to put your data hat on. And then your presentation hat too.

There’s really a decent bit more to the role. For candidates who progress through to the phone interview stage of the hiring process, I’ll walk you through the full scope of job duties then.

Must Haves

Though not mandatory, we prefer that you have agency experience or something transferable to that... I can’t tell you how many people apply to our job postings saying they really want to work for an agency. But they’ve never worked at one before. Then, once they get into it, they immediately get overwhelmed by the #agencylife hustle and bustle, clients, and tasks that compete equally for their attention. A fast-paced environment is the norm for agencies and ours is no exception. That said, we’re looking for someone who HAS worked in an agency environment, has assessed that #agencylife IS the right pace for them, and IS excited to dive in with us. I’ll caveat this by saying that if you don’t have agency experience BUT you thrive in a fast-paced, overwhelming (😁) environment, you can apply as well, regardless.
  • You must be well-spoken, professional, and comfortable in a client-facing role where you will be interacting with clients daily, guiding them through sophisticated campaigns and complex questions, while making them feel incredibly supported along the way. Excellent client service is important to us, and we want to always see how you are aiming to support our clients, go beyond what is expected in your job description, and always be looking for new and inventive ways to delight them.

  • You preferably have experience with influencer marketing. This is not mandatory but it really helps speed up the training process if you understand how things work around here. Your influencer marketing experience might be agency or client side. At the very least, you should be active on social media and understand the influencer landscape.

  • You must be someone that thrives in ambiguous and complex situations and is able to problem solve at the drop of a hat, or a blink of an eye. Our clients are complex. Our campaigns are nuanced and strategic. And you will constantly be challenged to problem solve. If this excites you, you’ve seriously come to the right place.

  • You must be someone that thrives in a fast-paced environment that requires multitasking and competing deadlines… and well, sometimes it might feel a bit disorganized.. We’re a small company after all.  We need each employee to be the type of person who can go with the flow… who can adjust quickly… who is able to embrace chaos with open arms when it decides to waltz through the door.

  • Due to the aforementioned fast-paced environment, you should be the type of person who is able to execute quickly… within time constraints… WHILE still maintaining a quality of work. We don’t ask for the impossible. But what we don’t want to see are projects that are just slapped together and [subsequently] riddled with issues.

  • Communication and visibility are key in this role. You must be someone that can easily communicate with your manager and co-workers, whether it’s over Slack, Google Hangouts, or in person. We communicate frequently and quickly - we can’t work with anyone that is slightly slow or ineffective at communicating with us or providing the visibility that management requires. Especially since this is a remote role, we need that trust and transparency. You with me?

  • Please be a decent writer. We don’t need you to write a novel about your childhood, but we do need you to be able to articulate yourself in a creative brief, client email, strategy doc, etc.

Other Nice-to-Haves

  • 2-3 years of relevant marketing experience is preferred but not mandatory. If you have worked in an agency for a decent amount of time and can hold yourself in a sophisticated way, we are willing to overlook this requirement.

  • We are looking for someone who is equal parts creative and data-driven. The job calls for both. From thinking up new influencer concepts or strategically advising our influencers on the direction of their content to meet client requirements to analyzing insights and providing strategic recommendations, you will constantly be tasked to be both qualitative and quantitative in your thinking with our influencers, clients, and internal stakeholders.

  • You take initiative and think of new and creative ways to do things - whether it's delighting a client, discovering and sharing with the team a new and more efficient way to do something, coming up with creative concepts for an influencer campaign, discovering new tools on social media that will benefit our clients, offering to help your manager with new processes or optimizations, the list is endless. The more initiative you take, the more you are likely to advance in the company. Trust me, your efforts will be noticed.

  • Influencer marketing is constantly changing, so we’re looking for people who are curious, and aren't afraid of change either.

So, Is This Job Your Jam, or No?

I could honestly go on and on about what we’re looking for, but I’m going to stop here. The point is, you gotta have the chops AND play well with others. And if you’re giddy already, feeling like this job description is just so dead-on-b*lls accurate for you, say something. (Also, if that’s the case, please message me asap!)

Oh, one last thing… Please add the word Toggle to your subject line when applying so that I know that you read this entire post. 😉
