Web Editor full-time
up! magazine, the inflight magazine for WestJet airlines, is seeking an experienced, proven Web Editor who can work as the online lead for upmagazine.com and the up! social media and other digital properties within the editorial team. This position requires at least two years of online content management experience and an editor who is passionate about travel, writing and digital media strategy and story telling.
In addition to the daily content delivery on upmagazine.com, the Web Editor will work with up! magazine editors to plan and execute print coverage online and to grow the upmagazine.com community and audience.
This is a fun and challenging opportunity to work closely with a small, energetic staff and to set goals for online community building and growing the audience of this site. As such, you will need to juggle multiple responsibilities, implement systems that meet strict deadlines, work well with a team and communicate effectively.
This is a full-time job, 40 hours per week, located in our Calgary office. This position reports to the Editor or her designate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Work with the up! magazine team to develop and fulfill story ideas for both print and online
o Coordinate and lead strategies to create and meet goals for increasing the online traffic and digital community of up! magazine
o Coordinate all online editorial, including migrating print stories online, assigning online content, helping to supervise the work of interns and researching and writing stories
o Coordinate and develop procedural structures, production and ongoing sign-off of daily online content and the implementation of print content online
o Coordinate and manage all online contesting and administrative projects
o Implement online procedural systems as necessary
o Liaise with art department, web director, senior editors, sales, traffic, marketing department and the client and publisher
o Assist in the supervision and assignment of up! magazine interns
o Organize and implement fact-checking, copy editing and proofreading processes for Web content
o Re-write and edit display copy and stories as needed to optimize SEO and web useability
o Contribute content to blogs and manage member queries and troubleshooting
o Develop promotional materials and campaigns for website initiatives
o Coordinate and maintain up! presence on existing and emerging social media platforms with a view to strengthening and growing the reach of the brand
o Some photo sourcing for the website and related departments in the magazine
o Other editorial duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Minimum two years as Web Editor at a national publication or similar experience
o Online leadership experience
o Experience creating and implementing community and audience building strategies
o Experience writing/editing for a travel media outlet or similar experience
o A degree in journalism, English or writing is preferred
o Experience editing in CP Style is an asset
o Experience with Drupal, Photoshop and Adobe InCopy in a Mac environment and basic knowledge of HTML and Google analytics is an asset
o Familiarity with and use of existing social media platforms, including but not limited to Twitter and Facebook, is required
