Web Developer/Interactive Director full-time
Welcome to Tandem, a Calgary-based creative boutique. We are on the hunt for a web developer to join the Tandem team. But not just any web developer. The successful candidate will be interested in working in a collegial and creative environment. A person who has interests beyond just a beautifully written piece of code. Someone who wants to work at a smaller company, with less hierarchy. A place where stuff gets done. Great stuff. So if this ‘rant’ sounds a bit like you, please read on.
Tandem is completing its 18th year in business. For some corporations, that’s nothing. But in the field of communications and design, that is something. Since inception, Tandem has produced work for many of the same clients. On the web front, Tandem designs great looking, functional, informative and memorable web pages. Our sites have been produced through a mix of collaboration; typically a web developer and a designer and a project manager and a client collaborating on how best to communicate a company’s brand in an interactive environment.
The tools used for the task will be familiar to you: HTML5, CSS, Jquery, Javascript, PHP, experience with Adobe Creative Suite, responsive design, SEO and possibly others. You may even use Flash and are curious how that technology might still apply in web development.
You likely have other marketing interests too. Perhaps you’re a social media hound and enjoy related marketing activity around ‘social’ channels; or possibly you’re a production guru and enjoy contributing in other areas. Or maybe you’ve dived deeper into web subjects and you’re interested in databases; behaviour based online advertising; or Analytics and big data. Regardless of your interests and your pursuits, Tandem would enjoy hearing about it and discussing ways we could make your talents relevant to Tandem and its clients.
On the culture front, Tandem works in and supports a collegial environment. We do not have an intense ‘work day and night’ culture. However, we enjoy being busy, we enjoy getting things done and we take satisfaction in improving the businesses of our clients. We’re not big on protocol, committees or processes. But we do believe in rolling up our sleeves, communicating often and regularly and making great stuff. We are very brand oriented. Translated to the web world, we always look for ways to create a memorable and unique interactive experience. That last point can frustrate some designers and developers (the ones who like a template and only champion function) and for others it’s uplifting knowing the best value is delivered to clients by creating on brand, beautiful sites with seamless functionality.
