Pink Triangle Press, Canada's leading gay and lesbian media organization, has an immediate opening for a Web Designer, based in our Toronto office. As Web Designer, you will develop and create look, feel and layout of websites and associated applications. Working on all aspects of creating a website design, this job requires a strong understanding both graphic design and web development technologies.

You will work with development and product management teams to develop and implement designs that accompany new features and functions for the sites. You will review requirements documentation and meet with the product management team, then generate layouts that will be programmed by the web developers.

You will develop site content and graphics by coordinating with copywriters and graphic designers; building images, icons, banners, etc. You will design webpage and e-mail layouts. You will maintain site appearance by developing and enforcing content and display standards. You will analyse competitor sites from a design perspective.

The ideal candidate for this position will have 2- to 3-years experience working closely with web developers in a software development environment; and a successful proven track record working with requirements definition and software development processes.

You have exceptional web graphic design skills and savvy; understand professional User Interface Design, usability and navigation standards and best practices. You understand: user experience principles, user experience issues, including HCI principles, Internet design principles, W3C standards and usability testing; and, technology issues and the implications for customer experience, including cross-platform issues (Windows/Mac), cross-browser issues (IE/Firefox/Chrome), Content Management Systems, portals, legacy systems, and middleware.

You have a solid understanding HTML, JavaScript, Flash, XML and XSL with special emphasis on CSS; familiarity with HTML5 & CSS 3 frameworks and responsive web design practices; familiarity with mobile web and app design and multimedia content development. You have experience developing information architecture for complex websites including wireframing.

You are highly detail oriented, with a positive can-do attitude that is matched by professional verbal and written communication skills. You are a proactive self-starter, with excellent time-management and planning skills. You are equally comfortable and effective working alone as you are in a team environment and accept feedback.
