JOB PURPOSE

The position of Web Designer is responsible for the production of all design, content and initiatives associated with www.marykay.ca and/or the MKOC – including metrics monitoring. Additionally, the position participates in the development of implementation of all elements of both Web sites, coordinating the efforts of online production, third-party vendors, ISPs (where applicable), and Mary Kay Inc. The position is also tasked with leading synergistic, consistent branding and image for all online initiatives.

The Web Designer must be able to take a proactive lead in ensuring optimum Web site usability and simplicity for customers and manage Web site updates and improvements through internal coordination with IT development, business owners and QA teams.

Additional responsibilities include analyzing Web measurement data to make recommendations and implement improvements, including further development of compelling Web pages, coding and testing of relevant functionality – as well as communication of changes/updates to users, including the management team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop content ideas – and coordinate with project owners – for quarterly and monthly Web releases – and route for approval, including design and development of product and opportunity-focused eNewsletters, Web pages and mini sites.

  • Liaise with U.S. Creative Services/Web/Marketing teams to obtain all relevant content, images, etc. and route to cross-functional teams for final approval.

  • Conceptualize, design and execute engaging interactive online experiences.

  • Translate brand and business objectives into strategic creative solutions.

  • Administer all quarterly Web releases to the eMarketing Suite (Mary Kay Personal Web Sites), corporate Web pages, and Preferred Customer Program pages by Canadianizing content and images; liaise with in-house Web Developer and other project owners to add relevant content to the site(s).

  • Design Web pages based on creative concept as requested by project owner or following Web best practices/trends and/or branding guidelines.

  • Traffic and manage Web site PDFs and images, and maintain library of files.

  • Manipulate or coordinate manipulation of images from U.S. and external vendors for online application.

  • Participate in the production and development site testing for all online initiatives.

  • Respond to Web-related inquiries Sales Force Services.

  • Work with third-party vendors to deliver media-rich content to the corporate and MKOC Web sites.

  • Administer the coordination of targeted e-mail campaigns and online surveys to the independent sales force and external audiences

  • Work with global communication teams to ensure that Canadian online and offline presence adheres to the Global Style Guide and Canadian Style Guide.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Community College diploma/degree in E-Business and Web Design or equivalent applicable experience, plus

2 years of Web Design, Content Management experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency in Acrobat, Dreamweaver, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, and in programming languages HTML/CSS. Basic understanding of JavaScript and Actionscript is required.

  • Superior attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Creative thinker with the ability and vision to take creative concepts to design execution.

  • Ability to prioritize workflow and manage numerous initiatives simultaneously – while meeting critical deadlines.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; bilingualism (French) a definite asset.

  • Basic knowledge of video editing software.

  • Ability to work in both PC and Mac platforms (position works in Mac; PC is simply as a support and/or testing).
