JOB OVERVIEW

We're hiring senior advisors for Suncor's Communications team. This is a great opportunity to show off your internal communications savvy, business knowledge and consulting skills.  As a business partner you'll consult to either Suncor's Human Resources or Information and Process Management teams on communications strategies and implementation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and execute communication strategies to support the client's business goals, while reflecting Suncor's business and communication priorities, culture, strategy and mission, vision and values
  • Provide communication counsel and support to clients and some leadership team members, including effective and timely internal communication using a variety of tools (e.g., written communications, employee conference calls, town hall meetings, web-based tools)
  • Create and implement communication plans, including execution of tactics to support specific projects, issues and initiatives
  • Collaborate with other communicators, organizational effectiveness and change management specialists
  • Highlight relevant developments and key milestones by writing online and print articles for company-wide communication tools and pursuing other internal and external opportunities to communicate changes and share successes
  • Build an understanding of the business environment and potential risks, to assist leaders with issue management and navigating reputational challenges
  • Understand, appropriately engage, and be an ambassador for the services model, Suncor's brand and communications processes on behalf of the Sustainability and Communication team

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • University degree or related post-secondary diploma/certificate in Communications, Public Relations, Business, Journalism or associated field
  • Minimum seven years plus experience in communications, preferably within a corporate communications setting
  • Experience as a trusted and strategic communication consultant to internal or external client groups
  • Experience helping clients manage communication issues and reputational challenges
  • Oil and gas/Human Resources/Information Technology/business process experience is an asset

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Superior communications skills, including planning, research, writing (print and web), editing and measurement
  • Strong conflict management and problem solving skills
  • Team player who knows how to engage diverse interests and build internal coalitions
  • Demonstrated ability to carry unstructured projects to completion within a changing environment, and work successfully with different types of people at many organizational levels
  • Able to successfully manage multiple projects to tight deadlines, both independently and as a member of a team
  • Able to act as a project leader as required, and coach other communication team members where no formal reporting relationship exists
  • Able to manage client expectations and develop win-win partnerships, while managing priorities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite with strong working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • A background or familiarity with both change and reputation management is an asset
  • Professional association membership and/or accreditation is an asset (i.e. IABC, CPRS)

  • As Senior Advisor of Communications for the Information and Process Management Office (I&PM), which is the integrated centre of expertise for process, information and information technology, you will help I&PM tell their story, and translate many complex projects into meaningful business information for the team and the wider Suncor audience
