Sales/Marketing Associate full-time
Verge Communications Ltd. is a small-but-growing media and tech company based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. We publish a top-notch daily news and features subscription website called EDGE that covers the Northwest Territories, the daily email news digest EDGE Express and the six issues/year free hyper-local print EDGE YK magazine. Along with a variety of print and online advertising platforms, we also provide communications, marketing and custom web-development services to a wide variety of private- and public-sector clients.
We're an energetic group of creative, intelligent, super-talented people who support each other to do their best work. While we're serious about working hard, we have a great sense of humour about it. And while we're positive, we aren't cheerleaders and don't do corporate things like team-building exercises. We do go out for a drink after work, on occasion, aren't afraid to have the occasional passionate debate in the office and throw great parties we sometimes invite the entire city to. To fit in, you'll need to think fast, be confident and willing to learn while sharing and teaching what you know.
About the job
Although EDGE has been publishing for nearly five years, you'll essentially be working at a startup transitioning (successfully) from print to digital while building/testing the model for other small- and medium-sized publishers to do the same. That means while we're totally professional, things also change quickly and chaos can be part of the daily grind. If you think the idea of helping build a new-and-innovative media sales model from the ground up's exciting, this could be for you.
The job itself will be shaped by the successful candidate. That said, we're looking for someone with:
Experience/interest in traditional print and digital sales
Ideas for new online marketing opportunities for our clients
The ability/interest to write and generate interesting ideas for sponsored/branded pieces in print and online
An interest in developing relationships through creative category sponsorships and possibly events
Along with traditional sales, you'll also likely be doing some agency-type work in a super-small shop for great clients. While we have a number of designers we work with to develop campaigns, we wouldn't be opposed to someone with design skills, though design won't be a core element of the job.
Compensation will honestly depend on experience and will include a commission element. We'd want you to start this, if possible, but would consider a later date for the right candidate. And while we don't expect you to work here forever, we do want you to be willing to consider a two-year commitment.
