Xtra is one of the world’s leading LGBTQ2S+ online magazines. Published by Pink Triangle Press, the Toronto-based, independent, queer-run media company, Xtrais an award-winning, mission-driven digital publication covering politics, culture, community, sex, relationships and health. Xtra is as intelligent and authoritative, as it is welcoming and playful. We believe in building bridges within our communities and aim to offer stories, information and discussions our audience can’t find elsewhere.
Xtra is investing in building more direct relationships with our audiences so that we can create content, products and services that are essential to them. We are looking for an experienced and passionate Product Owner to define and communicate our product vision in order to deliver ambitious, high-quality content that is of deep value to our audiences across all platforms. The Product Owner will also take the lead on the development of our membership strategy to identify and engage our audiences in order to better meet their needs.
What You’ll Do
Help Xtra deepen its understanding of and connection to our audience, and drive loyalty and registration
Support a culture of experimentation and iteration to identify the best ways to gather and leverage user insights across our marketing, advertising, and subscription efforts
Apply data and user research to inform new product features and improvements.
Communicate regularly with stakeholders and executives on project status, needs, and milestones.
What You’ll Bring
A strong knowledge and interest in IT and tech, as well as in journalism, and an understanding of how they intersect.
A strong interest in community, community engagement and LGBTQ2S+ issues.
An understanding of the media industry and how journalists work.
The ability to both develop product strategies and lead execution day-to-day.
Knowledge of technology and the process of development—the product owner is the key intermediary between tech/dev, editorial and marketing/sales.
Strong organizational skills, including building timelines and roadmaps, setting priorities, and communicating clearly with stakeholders.
Understanding of SEO, social media, accessibility and digital content distribution.
Good communication skills.
Analytics acumen, a data-informed approach and comfort using both data and user research to understand user needs, and to build products that real people will use and love.
We know there are fabulous candidates who might not meet all these criteria, or have terrific skills we haven’t thought of. If that’s you, please apply and tell us about yourself. We also encourage members of traditionally underrepresented communities to apply, including people of colour, LGBTQ2S+ people and people with disabilities.
