PR/Communications Officer contract
The Faculty of Fine Arts is currently seeking applications for the position of PR/Communications Officer. This is a 1 year maternity leave replacement starting approximately January 15, 2018.
Reporting to the Dean of Fine Arts, this position facilitates the development, coordination, and delivery of marketing, communications, and public relations strategies, programs and materials that support and forward the Faculty of Fine Arts priorities. The PR/Communications Officer, as a member of the Fine Arts Communication Team, plays an integral role in advancing the brand and public image of the Faculty of Fine Arts. This includes highlighting the achievements of Fine Arts’ students, faculty, employees, and supporters, as well as its programming, research/creative activities excellence, and community engagement. This position is responsible for Dean’s Office communication, marketing, and fundraising events, and working with other Fine Arts staff on Faculty-wide initiatives.
This position will also be responsible for: maintaining the Faculty’s online and social media presence; respond to media inquiries on routine matters; developing positive working relationships with reporters, producers, photographers, videographers, communications staff, and internal and external community partners; write, edit, and proofread content for publications; and collaborate with University Advancement and other internal communication offices on projects aligned with Fine Arts priorities.
Position Qualifications
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as journalism, creative writing, communication, or public relations from an accredited institution. A minimum of four years of experience in the communications and/or public relations field is also required. Proficiency in using digital photo equipment, photo editing and design software is required. An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in media relations, social media, editing publications as well as successfully completing writing projects for a large public sector organization. He/she will have recent, relevant experience creating communication plans, developing key messages, and successfully managing projects for print/online publications. He/she will have strong interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. We are looking for candidates who can work both independently and in a team, and to deal with the pressures of multiple deadlines in a shifting operational environment. Experience in event planning, preferably in a university setting and with relation to the Fine Arts will be considered an asset. The availability to work occasional evenings and weekends will be required.
